hospitality and tourism industry? And can you give an example of how we can still manage multicultural

COVID 19 PANDEMIC ON MULTICULTURAL DIVERSITY IN WORKPLACE

COVID-19 has affected day to day life and is slowing down the global economy. This pandemic has
affected thousands of peoples, who are either sick or are being killed due to the spread of this disease. COVID-
19 pandemic haa become a significant global crisis that requires individuals, organization, and nations to take
necessary to cope. COVID-19 has rapidly affected our day to day life, businesses, disrupted the world trade and
movements. Most of the countries have slowed down their manufacturing of the products. The various
industries and sectors are affected by the cause of this disease; these include the pharmaceuticals industry,
solar power sector, Information, electronics industry and especially the hospitality and tourism industry. This
virus creates significant knock-on effects on the daily life of citizens, as well as about the global economy.

In hospitality industry, there are many issues, challenges and trends that a hotel or a restaurant might
face. Cultural diversity in the workplace has become a major in hospitality industry. We all know that cultural
diversity means that the differences between people in gender, traditions, language, etc. Nowadays, workforce
in hospitality becomes diverse because employees come from many countries. And another problem that
hospitality industry facing to is the COVID-19 pandemic which also affect tha cultural diversity in he workplace.
There are many conflicts in the workplace itself. Some are communication barriers, gender equality, and
sometimes racism. Because of the health crisis discrimination arise from different workplace. In the hospitality
ang tourism industry, which we all know that there are differences between the nationality of the employees
and the tourist. I have a friend working in hotel in manila, the guests discriminate them. They accuse that they
were infected by the virus because they are working even they know the risk that they might be infect by virus.
Sometimes they were hated and disgustd by everyone. To overcome this challenges they strictly followed the
protocol on handling complaints and insured the safety of the guests by showing them that they use and follow
the safety protocol on COVID-19. They also practicing the proper communicating with the guests. The best way
to practice effective communication in a multi-cultural environment is by keeping an open mind, have some

knowledge of cultural differences, practice active listening and watch your nonverbal communication. It is
important to have an open mind towards new culture and embrace the different dynamic on shared teamwork
rather than focus on individual differences. See other people’s opinion as an opportunity to expand your
perception in your workplace.

I therefore conclude that this COVID-19 pandemic affect all the aspect of our lives. The way people live,
work, travel, leisure, and other things people do before this health crisis. Hospitality and tourism is one of the
biggest industries that mostly affect and its cultural diversity problem itself. But behind all of the challenges we
are facing, people always rise up and find ways to deal with this problem especially we Filipinos. We are known
for being resilient behind all the hindrances we might face. As long as we keep praying and trusting the plans of
the our God. Sit tight there is a blessing in a storm.
