PRACTICAL RESEARCH II

TOPIC:

DEFINITION, CHARACTERISTICS, AND TYPES OF

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

BIG IDEAS/ENDURING UNDERSTANDING:

Students will understand that a good Quantitative Research At the end of the lesson the Theresian learners will be able to:
contains the good characteristics of a research.
1. design a Quantitative Research.
Students will understand that the relation of Quantitative 2. use characteristics, strengths, weaknesses and kinds of Quantitative Research.
Research across other fields are important to answer other 3. illustrate the importance of Quantitative Research across fields.
possible questions it relates. 4. evaluate kinds of variables and their uses to be used for their research.

Students will understand that in a research the proper

variables that should be used must be suitable with factors
involved in the research.

READING ACTIVITY
To gauge the learnings of the students
in their Research 1, it is a must to look
back. As review to the students, they
will be choosing 2 research documents
from the list below (please scan the QR
CODE to download or read the
research samples. Then, analyze the
content and format of each documents
by answering the questions given. After
which, on the following session 2-5
students will be randomly callled to
share their answers in a live conference
sesion.

2.

3.

Questions:
1. What is the title of the research?
2. Who authored the work?
3. What is the topic of the research paper?
4. Classify the reserch based on its usage.
Is it applied or basic research? Explain
your answer.
5. Classify the research based on its
purpose. Is it exploratory, descriptive or
explanatory? Explain your answer.
6. What are the main premises and
arguments of the research? Do you
agree with any of them?
7. How would you rate/evaluate the
premises and arguments of the research?
8. It is a Qualatative or Quantitative
research?

Live Conferences DISCUSS(September 9, 2020- 9:00

am -10:00 am)(1 hour; 40 minutes for
sharing and 20 minutes for giving
intstructions)
*Live via MEET app
In this session, the class will be
having a 40 minutes live conference
for random sharing of 2-5 students
with regard to their answers of the
previous activity.
Afterwards, the students( group of 5)
will be assigned with a topic to study
on for the next session. Each group
will have their own topic, then they
will collaborate to discuss the topic
on their own pace. They will make a
recorded video report that will last
from 7-10 minutes each group. They
will play it during the live
conference of the next session. Thus
if they exceed their time will be cut
off. They will be provided with
learning materials and its up to them
to have more research about their
assigned topic to gather more
information. The teacher will be
listening to the talks and will just
add information or clarification of
the topic that might not be answered
by the students.
Group 1- What is Quantitative
Research?
Group 2- Characteristics,
strengths, weaknesses and
kinds of Quantitative Research
Group 3- Importance of
Quantitative Research across
fields

Group 4- Kinds of variables and

their uses to be used for their
research

Collaboration DISCUSS(September 11, 2020- 9:00

am -10:00 am)
*Live via MEET app
Recorded video reporting: In this
live session the students will play
their recorded video report. This will
go from group 1-4. Students from
other group may opt to list their
questions for the Q and A later, after
the presentation. No questions will
be entertained until group 4 is done
presenting their recorded video
report. After such, questions will be
entertained by the groups if any. As
the student share and report in this
sessions, the teacher will be listening
to the talks and will just add
information or clarification of the
topic that might not be answered by
the students.

Assessment ASSESSMENT(September 14, 2020-

9:00 am -10:00 am)
In this session, 2 types of assessment
will be executed; 1 in the
https://quizizz.com, where students
will answer multiple choice and
matching type questions( the
questions uploaded to the site is
attached below). This quiz is only
open from 9-10 am of September 14,
2020 and will be closed automatically
after the alloted time.
Another assessment is a reflection
type assessment where student will
submit an 8-10 minutes pre-recorded
video answering the reflection
questions given(this will be due on
September 14, 2020- 11:59pm). The
criteria for the 8-10 minutes video
reflection is attached below.
Then, they will do the POST IT
activity. In which students will post
something that confused them or
they need clarification in the
MESSENGER GROUP CHAT using
the MESSENGER APP.

Enrichment work(September 16,

2020- 9:00 am -10:00 am)
In this part of the session, the
Enrichment student will be making or
Work using submitting a transfer task that
Supplementary     will make them apply the
Materials knowledge and skills gathered
from the beginning of this
module till end. The transfer task
activity is attached below. This
activity is only due on September
16, 2020-11:59 pm.

PERFORMANCE TASK

Getting Started: Deciding on a Research Topic

Identify a topic of interest. It may be something that you have read about or, a friend had told you about. It may be something you have been curious
of since you entered senior high school or something that is relevant to a particular group in society, or to the whole society in general. It may also be
something based on your own life experiences.

Focus the topic of interest. Provide a brief description of it. What is it about the topic that you are interested in? What aspect of the topic would you
like to study and why? Are you deliberately omitting any particular aspect of the topic from your study? if you are, why? Try to describe your topical
interest in a brief but succinct way by completing the following sentences

My study is about
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
___.

In the study, I would like to look into

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
_____.

Draft a working title. A working or tentative title is important at this early stage because it can help focus the direction of your study. You can alwa
change it as you progress with your research. The language or the war that you will use in your title must reflect the kind of research that you will
undertake. Make sure tha your working tentative title captures or reflects what you want to explain

According to Wilkinson (1991 , cited in Creswell 1994, p. 3), “be brief and avoid wasting words. Eliminate unnecessary words such as ‘An Approach to’ .
. .’ and ‘A Study of . . .’ Use a single title or a double title. An example 0‘ double title is ‘An Ethnography: Understanding a Child's Perception of
WarAnother useful tip is to “consider a title no longer than 12 words, eliminate most articles and prepositions, and make sure it includes the focus or
topic of the study" (Creswell 1994, 3).

My study’s tentative title is:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________.

Evaluate the research topic. Is the topic researchable and feasible? Are the data you need available and accessible? Can the topic sustain your interest?
Who will be the target audience of your research?
