Hello, my name is Recsa Cahaya Erlangga.

I’m Final year student at Material

Engineering Institut Teknologi Bandung. For me, material like human, have a limit life and sum

of properties. 2 Month ago, I had opportunity to hold a competition that was routinely for

metallurgical and material science students. This competition was called the Metaloscope. This

opportunity became a kind of contribution to develop knowledge and their applications in

material. This event began with the establishment of a committee where I had to determine the

number of committees to help prepare technical and non-technical needs. I lead 30 committees

consisting of various divisions such as fundraising, events, field, logistics, liaison officer,

consumption and publication. To concept this competition, I involved them in preparing the

concepts and themes of the competition to be carried out. One of the goals of SDGs No. 9 is to

build durable infrastructure, support inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster

innovation. By 2030, substantially reduced waste production through prevention, reduction,

recycling and reuse. At point 5 goals no. 9 more clearly states to add scientific research,

increasing technological capabilities of the industrial sector in all countries, especially in country

like Indonesia. Gradually I held discussions with the lecturers and the head department until the

theme of the activity was decided "Metal Recycle to support the goal of sustainable development

(SDGs)". The competition is carried out in the form of a microstructure analysis (metallographic)

analysis of the metal that has been used and the development of the metal in the form of

treatment so that it can be applied to other fields or functions. On the other hand, this event has

also purpose as a forum for competition and development in the national scientific and

metallurgical material science. In the course of preparing for the race, I as a leader and the team

had constraints because of the very short amount of time, which was 4 months to raise funds for

the competition. Some sponsorship companies give negative responses because the time is too
urgent. For 2 months I approached the dean to help us. In the end the study program through the

dean was willing to provide assistance. Another obstacle that arises is to make an objective

competition assessment format, because the competition is held in the form of presentations,

each jury can ask and judge subjectively. By considering the pluses and minuses of each form of

appraisal, I decide choose the rubric assessment format. I also get obstacles because some

committees were not committed by not attending meetings and doing their work. To solve this

problem, I always Motivate and control my committee every meeting. Remind them the

opportunities become a committee. On D- Day, this event followed by university in Indonesia

and attracted 56 team with every team consist 3 persons. Surprisingly, almost all of the team do

the different research. Another achievement in this competition succeed increase eager to

competition. higher than last event (Only 30 team participant).
