Module 1

Communication is the process of expressing and exchanging information, thoughts, ideas and feelings
between two or more individuals that can be expressed through spoken or written words, actions or both
spoken and non-verbal action at the same time.

Elements of Communication
1. Speaker – the first person or the mastermind of the communication.
2. Message – the idea that the speaker wants to give
3. Encoding (translating) – the process of turning the idea to words or action
4. Channel – the mode of communication. It could be face to face or through gadget.
5. Receiver – the second person in the communication.
6. Decoding (interpreting) – the process of understanding the message.
7. Feedback – the process of giving a response to the speaker.

Process of Communication
1. The speaker generates an idea or message.
2. The speaker encodes or translate the idea into words or actions.
3. The speaker sends the message through a channel.
4. The receiver receives the message.
5. The receiver decodes or interprets the message.
6. The receiver gives a response to the speaker.
Purpose of Communication
1. To give and get information
2. To express feeling or emotion to be understood
3. To develop good human relation or friendship
Barriers of Communication
1. Emotional Barriers
 Current emotion
 Preparedness to communicate
 Impression about the speaker
2. Use of jargon
 Jargons refers to the set of specialized vocabulary in a certain field.
 Unfamiliar words
3. Lack of Confidence
 Afraid to share experience
 Very minimal response in communication
4. Noisy Environment.
