FRACTURED

After his wife and injured daughter disappeared from the emergency room, a man becomes convinced
the hospital was hiding something.
I. INTRODUCTION

In 2019, Netflix has released its one of the most intriguing and suspense movie. This

movie was called, Fractured and considered as a psychological thriller film. Fracture was

part of Netflix’s slate of original movies for Halloween. This film was directed by Brad

Anderson and the story was written by Alan B. McElroy. Many people got hooked by the

movie, and this won’t happened without an amazing actors and actresses who played

their roles astonishingly in the said film. Sam Worthington who was the leading actor of

Fractured was also the one who played in the well-known movies entitled, Avatar. He

portrays the character of Jake Sully in the film series. He was also one of the actors in

other famous movies such Terminator and Clash of the Titans.

In this film, Sam Worthington portrayed another great role. He plays the character of

Ray, who was the father that is trying to figure out the truth about what happened to his

family. A lot of people commended Sam for doing a great job in his movie. Viewers also

expressed their admiration by sharing their thoughts to different social media platforms.

They have said that Fractured had a great twist, that made a hard time for everyone who

watched the film to predict the ending of the movie. The duration of the film is about less

than two hours, hence, viewers are not bothered by its duration because they were hooked

by the journey of Ray.

II. DISCUSSION

Many viewers also had a confusing mind about this film, specifically about its

ending. But this movie taught its viewers how to pay attention to the movie, most

especially the first scenes or events that happened. At the beginning of the movie, Ray

with his family had a Thanksgiving dinner, as they went home, Peri who was the

daughter of Ray had to use the bathroom so they pulled over at a suspiciously rest shop.

As he waited her daughter, he bought some batteries for his daughter’s music player. Peri

was about to go back to his parents when a dog walks toward to her. She was so terrified

and slowly moves backward but she was not aware of the construction pit behind her and

it was too late for her parents to catch her.

But Ray seems to disassociate and reality becomes disjointed for him. And the

disjointed reality was also appeared to the audience that made them confused as the story

goes by. On the perspective of Ray, he rushed his daughter at the hospital and had a

conversation with the Dr. Berthram. He was the doctor who recommends Peri to have a

CAT scan for her head injury. He saw his wife and daughter went to the lower level of

the hospital for the scan yet they disappeared after it. This was the start that Ray got

paranoid and was convinced that there is a mystery happening inside the hospital. He

tried to talked with the hospital employees but they don’t have any records about Peri

was a patient of the said hospital. Police and psychologist got involved and no one

believes him that his family was mysteriously vanished, in addition they thought that Ray

murdered his family.

 He was convinced that the hospital harvested the organs of the lost patients. He

became so desperate to the point that he killed a guard who hold the elevator key and

went down to the forbidden lower level of the hospital. He found Peri lying on the

operating table and his wife was unconscious. He also saw two men who were killed by a

car accident and their organs was gone. Ray believes that his wife and daughter were next

on the line. He rushed to save his family and along the way, he shoots a doctor who was

involved, and they make it to the car safely.

But all of it was only on the perspective of Ray, none of it happened in reality.

Because these was all made up in Ray’s mind, he created an illusion to help him

recovered to the what really happened at the pit stop. The truth is that as Ray rushed to

the hospital the bodies of his family was in the trunk because they were already dead in

the first part of the movie. Peri died immediately as she fell into the pit and his wife was

struck down and she hit her head on a metal bar which cause her death. It is not Peri who

was rushed by Ray but the two men who were from the car accident. The concept of the

illegal harvest of organs was all made up in Ray’s mind because he wanted to turned

himself as someone who can save his family instead of causing them harm.
III. CONCLUSION

This film was indeed an intriguing one. Most of the viewers expected the happy

ending as Ray finally knows the whereabout and saves his family from the people who

illegally harvested organs from the lost patients. Yet many were shocked by the truth behind

what really happened in the story. It made everyone in awe and became a reminder to pay

more attention even in the beginning of the story. This movie also portrays what can really

happen to a person who experienced or had a really traumatic experience. Traumatic

experiences usually involved by situations wherein there are threats in life or safety of one’s

self or the people around him. This can happen to anyone at any time, it can seriously affects

someone emotionally and physically. If these feelings persist, it might result to a more

serious mental health problems, just like what happened to Ray. Every person has a different

ways to cope with the awful situations he experienced or witnessed. What was portrayed in

the film was one of the worst case scenario that might happen to anyone who badly needs

recovery from these shocking experiences. In this film, it also shows how our brain works

and how powerful it is, that it can deceived us too.
