Description
PROTECTOSIL SC CONCENTRATE is an aqueous
silane-based system intended to render porous
mineral substrates hydro- and oleophobic, making
them easy-to-clean. It is practically free from volatile
organic components (VOC). Facades treated with
PROTECTOSIL SC CONCENTRATE remain clean

less susceptible to the growth of microorganisms such

going up the wall. This avoids pre-treating the
substrate with run-off from above. Avoid using dirty
application equipment, which can contaminate the
product.
The easy-to-clean effect may be in many cases
(especially on very coarse and very porous substrates)
enhanced by additional treatments. The amount of
product required for the second and all subsequent
treatments is considerably less. Several layers should
be only applied using HVLP technology; the resulting
droplets must be rubbed in quickly using a brush or
swab to distribute the liquid evenly across the surface.
In most cases the hydro- and oleophobic effect forms
within just a few minutes (especially in warm, dry
weather). Some substrates, such as limestone, are
less reactive. In such cases the effectiveness may take
some days to fully develop. The application should be
continuous and uninterrupted so that no overlapping
occurs. The aqueous solution of PROTECTOSIL SC
CONCENTRATE cannot penetrate a previously treated
section. The resulting droplets can cause mottling if
not rubbed in with a brush.
Adjoining areas such as windows, glass, painted
surfaces, surfaces to be painted, plants and
landscaping should be protected with plastic from
overspray. In case of accidental contamination the
resulting film can be removed with standard cleaners,
silicone removers, mineral spirits or solvents if applied
immediately before it hardens.
PROTECTOSIL SC CONCENTRATE reacts with the
interface of the mineral substrate’s pores and
capillaries to form hydrophobic interface-compounds.
Since previous building material treatments may not
be known, a PROTECTOSIL SC CONCENTRATE test
patch is recommended to avoid any undesired side
effects.
The amount of product required depends on the
absorbency of the substrate to be treated, and also if
the surface has already been treated with a
penetrating water repellent (e.g. PROTECTOSIL BHN
or PROTECTOSIL WS 405). Porous, absorbent
substrates can require more than 100 ml ready-to-use
solution per square meter.
Coverage
If a solution of PROTECTOSIL SC CONCENTRATE is
applied by the flooding method, the amount of solution
required, depends on the porosity and the absorbency
of the substrate combined.
Exact values should be determined using test patches.
The amount of product used can be greatly reduced
by using HVLP equipment. In the case of concrete, as
a rule 40–80 ml/m2 are required in the first step. The
easy-to-clean effect can be improved by additional
treatments.

In the case of polished stone (e. g. marble) simply
apply PROTECTOSIL SC CONCENTRATE once with a
cloth, microfiber glove or other suitable aid by
polishing until a liquid film is no longer visible.
Significantly less product is required for polished
surfaces (about 30 g/m2) compared to rough ones.
Packaging
PROTECTOSIL SC CONCENTRATE is supplied in
25kg and 200kg plastic lined steel drums and one
tonne bulk containers.
Storage and Shelf life
Store under cover, out of direct sunlight and protect
from extremes of temperature. In tropical climates the
product must be stored in an air-conditioned
environment.
Shelf life is 12 months when stored as above.

Safety precautions
As with all chemical products, care should be taken
during use and storage to avoid contact with eyes,
mouth, skin and foodstuffs (which can also be tainted
with vapour until product fully cured or dried). Treat
splashes to eyes and skin immediately. If accidentally
ingested, seek immediate medical attention. Keep
away from children and animals. Reseal containers
after use. Do not reuse containers for storage of
