Dear CEng 141 (STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS 2) students:

Greetings!
Based on the decision of the Board of Regents, we know that you will no longer go back to VSU
to complete the 2nd semester of this school year. Here are what we are going to do for the course
CEng 141 (STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS 2):
I will be giving your Final Grade based on your performance before the classes were suspended
last March 13, 2020. Since we were not able to conduct midterm/final examinations, I am
removing the Major examinations from our grading system. The following is the original grading
system and the revised grading system for the subject:

ORIGINAL Grading System REVISED Grading System

Major Examinations = 35%
Long Examinations = 30% Long Examinations = 30%
Seatworks/Quizzes = 20% Seatworks/Quizzes = 20%
Courseworks = 15% Courseworks = 15%
Total = 100% Total = 65%

*To pass the Structural Analysis 2, a student must *To pass the Structural Analysis 2, a student must
get a grade of 60%. get a grade of 39%.

For you to fully understand how grades will be computed, here is a sample grade computation:
Name of Student: Dalisay, Ricardo

Weight
Total Score Rating (Rating x
Percentage)
Long Examination 21/39 53.85% 16.155
Quizzes/Seatworks 45/80 56.25% 11.25
Courseworks 80/100 80.00% 12
Final Grade 39.405% PASSED

If your Final Grade reaches 39%, congratulations, you pass the Structural Analysis 2.
If your final grade is less than 39, you fail. However, according to the Memorandum Circular No.
49 from University President, “For students whose overall rating is failing, no grade shall be given,
and the space for the grade in the grade sheet will be left blank (not Dropped, Unsatisfactory,
INC, or NGS) to indicate that the grade is deferred/withheld. No student shall be given a failing
mark during this semester. When classes resume, the student shall be given a maximum period
of one year to submit additional requirements/activities in order to pass the course. In such a
case, the deadline for completion of this requirement will be on June 15, 2021.”
For those whose grades are failing, please wait for my announcements on what to do. There will
be ‘periodic’ remedial examinations, I just haven’t decided when or where or how.
Also, according to OP Memorandum Circular No. 49 “Pre-requisite subjects enrolled this 2 nd
semester 2019-2020 but with deferred grades shall be considered valid for enrolment of the higher
subjects to be enrolled in the 1 st semester 2020-2021.” In other words, you can enroll the
design subjects in the 1st semester.
I will be notifying you in the near future, probably on the 15th of May, regarding your Final Grades
on this subject.
Good day.

Your CEng 141 instructor,

Engr. MARCELO T. ABRERA, Jr.
