LOADING CHECKLIST - PART I

BEFORE COMMENCEMENT OF LOADING, CHECK THE FOLLOWING:
 That pre-arrival and arrival checklists as per SMS are completed without remarks.
 That all operational sequences are mutually agreed upon between shore and ship and that checklists are
signed.
 That the entire cargo system is correctly lined up for the intended operation.
 That all valves are closed.
 That all drain-cocks are closed and secured.
 That all flanges not in use are blanked off and they are fully bolted.
 That all trunks and hatches are closed and secured.
 That all bolts have been removed on hatches to Emergency oil spill tank P/S
 That all tanks to be loaded are suitably inerted – if applicable.
 That all P/V-valves are in good working order.
 That all monitoring equipment and alarms are fully operational and that they are set for level control of all
tanks.
 Sample method discussed with surveyors (e.g. manifold, line sample, 3-foot etc.). All in accordance with
SMS – Main book chapter T.
DURING COMMENCEMENT OF LOADING, CHECK THE FOLLOWING:
 Open valves as per loading plan.
 Always start loading with as low rate so that any leakage in the piping and/or connections can be detected.
 Continue as per loading plan and increase the rate gradually up to agreed rate. Check the piping system
continuously for any leakage.

The watch officer shall confirm above checklists to the Chief officer when carried out.

LOADING CHECKLIST - PART II

DURING LOADING, CHECK THE FOLLOWING:

 That all monitoring equipment and alarms are fully operational and that they are set for level control of all
tanks.
 Perform repetitive checks for leakage in the piping system.
 Perform repetitive safety checks as per ship/shore safety checklist.
 Perform repetitive security checks as per ISPS code and Ship security plan.
 Make sure that instructions for deck watch are followed.
 When topping off tanks, reduce the loading rate either via shore or by opening into empty tanks that shall be
loaded.
 Never top up more than one tank at the time.
 Monitor topped up tanks carefully, so that any leakage through valves will never result in an overflow of a
full tank. Before all topping operations make sure that shore is ready for emergency shut down.
 When topping off last tank reduce the loading rate in due time and always have contact with the responsible
shore operator.
 Deviation from the written loading plan must be confirmed through the Chief Officer and logged.
 All emptied ballast tanks must be confirmed empty by manual sounding and logged.
AFTER LOADING, CHECK THE FOLLOWING:
 That hatches to Emergency oil spill tank P/S are fully bolted and secured.
 When loading hose/arm has been drained: close all valves before commencement of disconnection.
 Loading samples and seals accounted for.
 Samples sealed and properly stowed. Ship to obtain own samples if none are left.

BALLASTING / DE-BALLASTING CHECKLIST

BEFORE COMMENCEMENT OF BALLASTING / DE-BALLASTING, CHECK THE

FOLLOWING:
 Confirm quantities of ballast water by manual sounding.
 If de-ballasting, check that ballast tank water doesn’t contain oil or other contaminants.
 Check that correct sea water density is set in Saab and Consultas.
 Check that appropriate valves are open / closed.
BALLASTING
 Fill tanks initially by gravity and then by pump.
 Deviation from the written plan must be confirmed through the Chief Officer and logged.
DE-BALLASTING
 Empty tanks initially by gravity and then by pump – when applicable.
 Deviation from the written plan must be confirmed through the Chief Officer and logged.
 Always have sufficient stern trim when stripping the ballast tanks.
 When the individual tank is empty it should be confirmed empty by manual sounding at the aft part
of the ballast tank and remaining quantities (if any) should be logged and inserted into loading
computer (off line input).
 Check that ballast tank water doesn’t contain oil or other contaminants before and during de-
ballasting. This should include a visual check of the water surface before the discharge and when
the tank is half empty. The atmosphere should be confirmed not to contain any flammable gases
by means of the Vimex-system. Any indication of the presence of cargo in the ballast water
should be reported immediately and de-ballasting should be ceased until an investigation can be
made.

This vessel is constructed in a way that in an emergency the ballast piping can be connected to the cargo
piping for filling of heavy ballast in the cargo tanks. The above check list also applies for such operations.

The watch officer shall confirm above checklists to the Chief officer when carried out.
