A. Research Subject and Location


 The subject of the research were the students of the 10th grade of SMAN 15
Surabaya
 The location of the research was SMAN 15 Surabaya

B. Research Procedures

1. Planning

 RPP & Syllabus


 KD 3.8 dan 4.8
 CHAPTER 12 “Issumboshi”
 Widiati, U., Rohmah, Z, &Furaidah. (2017). Buku Guru Bahasa Inggris Kelas
X. Jakarta: Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan.
 Teaching materials
8 meetings to 2 cycles based on the syllabus.
 Teaching Media

For the media consists of:


1) Manga; 2) Compliment and suggestion sheet

 Observation Sheet

Make a note the atmosphere in the class when the students using manga for
narrative text

 Interview Sheet

The researcher interviewed the English teacher and the students. In the interview
will ask how learning English in class, and difficulties during the Learning
Process.

 Documentation sheet

In the documentation sheet will use photos, videos, sheets and notes.

 Formative test sheet.

The researcher makes scoring table total score based on the standard of writing
assessment. In the test, there are some of question about narrative and ask them to
make a narrative text to the test. In the following text, there were 10 questions of
essay.

2. Action

Implement writing comperhension in increasing of students’s writing achievement by


using manga in SMAN 15 Surabaya. in accordance with the plans that have been
prepared. This action is carried out by the English subject teacher of class X
SMAN 15 Surabaya is the researcher herself.

3. Evaluation

The researcher made an evaluation on all the researcher observes to find the
weakness of the activities that carried out in using Manga to teach writing.

After carried out the teaching and learning activity using Manga , the resercher
occurance in the classroom as the effect of action, evaluated the process, and
noticed the result of the implementation of Manga in teaching writing

4. Reflection

The results of observations have shown that the implementation


learning in accordance with the plans that have been prepared and
provide good value for all components.

C. Data Collection Technique

1. Interview

An interview will be held between 10th grade students of SMAN 15 Surabaya and
English teachers. With some questions related to the learning process.

2. Observation

The observation conducts before and using the research. The observation aims to
know the situation of the teaching and learning process when the media was used.
From the observation, the researcher noted all events, activity, and henomenon
happened. The researcher compared between interview data and the real condition
of students in the class. If the data of interview is appropriate with the real
condition, means that the data of interview is valid.

3. Questionnaire
The researcher distributed questionnaire to the students at preliminary study. It
was enabled to know the students’ difficulties in learning English skills especially
mastery writing.

4. Test

Written tests, pre-test and post-test, are used to find out the students’ achievement
in writing comprehension and to know the students’ writing comprehension
before and after teaching reading using Manga.

5. Documentation

The researcher print in some information such as: attendance list of the students in the
classroom and the score list.

D. Data Analysis
This research uses narrative quantitative method to know how useful Manga media to
their learning writing achievement in narrative text.
