PREPERATION OF GLYCIRIN SUPPOSITORIES

Objective: At the end of the activity the student should be able to:
1. Fill in the table of formulation
2. Enumerate commercially available suppositories
3. Identify generic and brand name of drugs and its dosage strength and method of administration
4. Identify drug indication or category and other available dosage form of the product

SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM IN PREPERATION OF GLYCIRIN SUPPOSITORIES

Procedure:
1. Prepare 30g only.
2. Heat the glycerin in a suitable container to about 120F.
3. Dissolve the sodium stearate with gentle stirring in the heated glycerine then add purified water.
4. Mix and immediately pour the hot mixture in a suitable mold (if made of metal) previously heated and
is used while hot.
5. Cool the suppository completely before removal from the mold.
6. Packed individually with a foil. Label.

gentle stirring in the heated glycerine then add
purified water.

suitable mold (if made of
metal) previously heated
