TECHNOLOGY: AUTOMATIC FARE COLLECTION SYSTEM (BEEP CARD)

Purpose/Objective
This study seeks to encourage and to inform us about the use of Beep Card, its importance and how it
can greatly affect the state of transportation that we are currently facing. Beep card has many benefits,
namely to lessen the time required to queue in buying train tickets, gives us the freedom to switch trains
using only one ticket unlike before, it can also be used not only in trains but also in buses, in paying toll
gate fees at CAVITEX and NLEX, availing discounts, and for buying personal necessities.
To introduce the high implementation benefits of the Automatic Fare Collection System (Beep Card) in

Introduction
Of late, transportation is one of the biggest problem here In the Philippines. Many complaints from
commuters, motorists, and transport operators are aired on the news. And also news about the present
condition of our transport system, the mass transit problems that we are facing in these past years that
our country needs to resolve. We suffer because of our poor transport system, mostly because our
country has a poor quality of road network, lack quality of our urban transport system, and heavy traffic
due to the drastic increase in the number of vehicles being registered. Government planned a possible
solution that can lessen the strain of the commuters, it is by the implementation of a Beep card.
 The Beep Card can lessen the required time to queue in buying a train ticket before riding a
train, this can lessen and save up more time for the commuters.
 The MRT net worth will decrease because the longer the passengers wait in line, the lesser the
number of passenger they can accommodate every day, which leads to less amount of ticket
being sold.
 The government needs employees that manually sell tickets – this could lead to the increase of
the ticket price because manual jobs are labor intensive.

Project description

Beep card is a one small plastic card packed with benefits. It is a reloadable stored-value card
here in the Philippines, mainly used to pay electronically for public transportation fares at Metro
Manila's train stations and select bus terminals. This smart card makes payments more convenient for
Filipino commuters.

Methodology

The Department of Transportation perform the following steps:

 First, The Department of Transportation (DOTr), planned the project.
 Second, The DOTr publicly introduced the project to the Filipino citizens.
 Third, they trained personnels who will manage and operate the Beep Cards.
  Fourth, they implemented and constructed authentic beep machines to MRT Stations.
 Fifth, the operation began and the public useS their technology.

Budget/ Timeline

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) carry out a specific project named Beep Card, with a
project cost of PHP 1.72 billion, and is continuously developed for over 10 years with a 2-year inclusive
time of development/delivery.

 With Beep Card, passengers can ride the train easily and consume less time.
 Passengers can skip the ticket booth by loading their card via GCash.

rate.

the innovation of old manual operations.
 Employees are more secured because the contactless technology guarantees no viral
