Straight and directional hole drilling : well profiles, bottom hole assembly and its components,
deflection tools, deviation control, hole problems, well path deflection & correction
Unit III
Logging while drilling and Measurement while drilling : downhole surveying, objectives of
LWD/MWD, LWD and MWD tools, telemetry system, data interpretation
Unit IV
Directional drilling and horizontal well drilling : directional drilling technology, PD motors and
turbodrills, auto-track and verti-track system, rotary steerable system, geo-steering tools, special
mud requirements, drilling problems and remedies
Unit V
Special methods in directional drilling : extended reach drilling, multilateral drilling, coil tubing
drilling, hole cleaning in high angled wells

Well control principles & procedures : anatomy of a kick, kick tolerance, dynamic kick control,
bullheading, drillers method, engineers method
