8. a)
Number of dumplings Mr Choo prepare per hour = 1800 ÷ 15 = 120
Number of dumplings Mr Choo prepares in 9 hrs = 120 x 9 = 1080
Number of dumplings his wife prepares in 4 hrs = 1800 – 1080 = 720
Average number of dumpling per hour = 720 ÷ 4 = 180
b)
Number of dumplings his wife prepares per hour = 720 ÷ 4 = 180
Number of hours for his wife to prepare 1800 dumplings = 1800 ÷ 180 = 10 hrs
Difference in time taken for 1800 dumplings = 15 – 10 = 5 hrs

Ans: a) 180
b) 5 hrs

11. Radius of small semi-circle = 10cm

Radius of big semi-circle = 14 cm
3
Perimeter of 3 small semi-circle = 2 x 2 x π x 10 = 30π
3
Perimeter of 3 big semi-circle = 2 x 2 x π x 14 = 42π

Line gap length = (28 + 28 + 20) – (28 + 20 + 20) = 8 cm

Perimeter of figure = 30π + 42π + 8 = 72π + 8 = 234.19448 cm ≈ 234.19 cm

13. Let length of each identical square = u

0.2m = 20 cm, 0.1m = 10 cm
Unshaded area = 20 x 2u + 10 x 3u + 20 x 10 = 70u + 200 = 3000
70u = 3000 – 200 = 2800
u = 2800 ÷ 70 = 40 cm
Shaded area = 6 x 40 x 40 = 9600 cm2
Area of rectangle = 3000 + 9600 = 12 600 cm2

17. Let dinner bill amount = u = Peter’s money at first

Let Roger’s money = r
Let Mary’s money = m
4
r–u=9m

9r – 9u = 4m multiply by 9
9r – 9u = 4 (r + 126) substitute m = r + 126
5r – 9u = 504
20r – 36u = 2016 multiply by 4
20r - 2016 = 36u (1)

11
m – u = 15 r

15m – 15u = 11r multiply by 15

15(r + 126) – 15u = 11r Substitute m = r + 126
4r + 1890 = 15u
20r + 9450 = 75u (2)
11466 = 39u (2) – (1)
u = 11466 ÷ 39 = $294
Each person share of bill = 294 ÷ 3 = 98
b)
Peter’s sum = u = $294
20r – 2016 = 36 x 294 from (1)
r = 12600 ÷ 20 = $630 = Roger’s sum
m = r + 126 = 630 + 126 = 756 = Mary’s sum
Total of 3 amounts = 294 + 630 + 756 = $1680
294 7
Peter’s money as fraction of total = 1680 = 40

Ans: a) 98
7
b) 40
