Proposal

Summary
When steel is used in concrete, it is known as reinforced concrete. In this case study corrosion
rate, damage to RCC structures due to steel corrosion factors responsible for it will be analyzed.
Corrosion of steel is an electrochemical process to form cells of corrosion. Durability of concrete
structures will also be taken into account during studying of concrete structures in which the
metal iron transformation to rust depends on the chemical oxidation. The purpose of this report is
to measure experimentally the different times to corrosion like (initiation of corrosion, cracking
and damage periods of concrete samples put under test comparing their results and discussing the
corrosion stages during the entire life.

Methodology
The report involves research objective and significance of the corrosion rate by comparing the
experiments and results of the concrete samples put under test. The investigation will undergo to
determine the time, cause of corrosion to the concrete samples. The effects of quality, properties,
concrete cover and chloride permeability will also be studied and discussed in the investigation.
Although, there are limited experimental test methods available in the literature to study the time
of corrosion of reinforced concrete. The experiments taken from the literature or net will be
related to the old building which has undergone corrosion.
