• Setting a datum depth at the oil-water contact and using the initial reservoir pressure as the reference pressure is a great way of initializing the reservoir
and calculating its volumetric. Since Formation volume factor varies with pressure and pressure varies with depth, initializing our reservoir must be done
with a good knowledge of these variations.

• A relationship describing the variation of the dissolved gas vs depth must be defined to the simulator if your set datum is at WOC. In this case, it
enables the simulator to determine the fluid column or region of constant solution gas oil ratio. Solution gas oil ratio will typically be constant from WOC
to GOC as in Fig 1.

• If the solution gas vs depth is defined correctly, the simulator can use the proper formation volume factor to determine the accurate oil originally in
place. In this case, Boi. See Fig 2.

• The datum depth can be set anywhere in the reservoir through your simulator, but you must remember to use the appropriate reference pressure and
define the fluid properties variations with depth where applicable.
