directed by the Owner, all products and materials to the storage site. Off-Ioad the
equipment.

1.7 SPARE PARTS

1.7.1 All spare parts shall be interchangeable for a manufacturer’s Product of the same size
and model. Furnish the following spare parts:
- For valves, pipe fittings and accessories of each type and size see corresponding
technical specifications.

PART 2 PRODUCT

2.1 DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

2.1.1 General: Design all control valves, air pipe mains, single air pipes and fixing material in
stainless steel 316L for mounting as shown on the drawings. Consider longitudinal
extensions of the air pipe with the fixing material. The submerged part of the air pipes
shall be fixed in a way to dismantle and lift the pipes for cleaning without taking the
chamber out of operation.
2.1.2 A drainage pipe with ball valve has to be foreseen at the deepest point of horizontal
pipe.
2.1.3 Construct and weld outboard end caps of the plate used for the submerged horizontal
pipes.
2.1.4 Control Valve: Provide each riser pipe with a control valve mounted adjacent to the
base bracket on the opposite side from the top elbow. Furnish a lever-operated butterfly
valve, of flanged or tapped lug design as specified. The holes in the submerged
horizontal air pipes shall be 3 mm diameter in a distance of 10 cm.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION
3.1.1 Individual sections of piping shall be pre-fabricated in required lengths. Connections to
be joined at the installation site shall be made by pre-welded flanges, unless otherwise
required.
3.1.2 Installation and assembly of the equipment shall be in accordance with the drawings
and with the manufacturer’s installation instruction manual. The contractor shall furnish
all bolts, shims, tools and other devices necessary for installing the coarse bubble
aeration system. The manufacturer’s representative shall supervise the handling,
installation, start-up and testing of the equipment.
3.1.3 Furnish temporarily attached templates in order to facilitate accurate installation of the
grid supports.
3.1.4 Valve operators shall be located so that they are accessible for operation and
maintenance. Valve operators shall be mounted for unobstructed access, but mounting
shall not obstruct walkways. Operators shall not be mounted where shock or vibration

will impair their operation. Support systems shall not be attached to handrails, process
piping, or mechanical equipment.
3.1.5 Make sure that the dimensional tolerances of the grit removal tanks are according to
manufacturer instructions.
3.1.6 Anchoring of the supports: in the case that the supports shall be anchored with dowels
the Contractor shall consider the manufacturer’s documentation of the mechanical type
of dowels.
3.1.7 Electric operators and fluid power systems shall be installed in accordance with the
manufacturer's written instructions.
3.1.8 After the system is installed and prior to start-up, complete clean up of the grit chamber
area of any accumulated construction debris shall be done. The Contractor is
responsible for any damage to the equipment during initial start-up due to foreign
objects left in the areas.

3.2 FIELD TESTS

3.2.1 Tests: After installation of the coarse bubble aeration system, control equipment and all
appurtenances, supervise a field running test, under actual operating conditions as
specified in the General Requirements. Tests will be of sufficient duration to show that
the equipment works properly, operates at the specified speeds, has necessary
clearances, operates without overheating of any parts and in all other respects meets
all requirements of the Specifications.

1. Supervise field testing to include checking the operation of the warning and drive
shut-down circuitry of the air blowers. The test will include increasing the loading
to test the mechanical overload protection system of the air blowers.

2. Submit complete test procedures for approval prior to testing; however,

accomplish testing with the machine (air blowers) in operation.

3. Furnish all labor, materials, and test apparatus necessary for supervising the
above tests.

4. Correct any defects in the equipment or failure to meet the requirements of the
Specifications properly.
3.2.2 Controls: Ensure that the tests also demonstrate that the equipment operates as
specified with its control system.
3.2.3 Field testing shall be conducted by an experienced field test engineer and will be
witnessed by the owner. Before initially energizing the motors (air blowers), the
contractor shall have successfully tested all the control, monitoring, and protective
circuits. This thorough electrical checkout procedure shall have followed a detailed
step-by-step approved test plan. The motor units undergoing tests should also be
checked at this time.
3.2.4 Tests will be of sufficient duration to show that the equipment operates properly at the
specified speeds, has necessary clearances, operates without overheating of any parts
and in all other respects meets all requirements of the specifications.
3.2.5 Field Tests: Inspect the piping for proper joints, supports and tie-downs and end plugs.

System

3.2.6 Before completion of the installation of the coarse bubble aeration system, the drop
pipes, headers and air main branch manifold are to be tested at blower pressure. If
leaks are found, correct and repeat test.
3.2.7 Flood the channels with water to the top of the horizontal pipes within grit chambers.
Check the level of the horizontal pipe assemblies to see that they are at the same
elevation within 6 mm. Should it be necessary to correct the elevation of any horizontal
pipe assembly as a result of this check, such action is to be taken before proceeding
further.
3.2.8 Make arrangements for testing to minimize the possibility of dirt and debris entering the
system after acceptance.
3.2.9 With all coarse bubble aeration system assemblies’ level, examine for air leaks in the
submerged sections with approximately 600 mm of water over the horizontal pipe
assemblies. Provide the air test of sufficient time to allow checking of the system. The
surface of the water will be visually inspected to see that air flow is uniformly distributed
across the channels. During test, replace all horizontal pipes not operating satisfactorily
or showing non uniform diffusion at no additional cost. Furnish water for such tests from
an approved source.
3.2.10 Final Acceptance Test (Demonstration) Run: Provide the Final Acceptance Test Run of
the equipment performed by the manufacturer's service representatives in the presence
of the Owner. Perform the Final Acceptance Test Run in conjunction with the DCS,
using waste water. Simulate and demonstrate that all performance requirements are
satisfied and that the alarm and shut down functions operate satisfactorily.

3.3 TRAINING
3.3.1 Subjects of instruction for training shall include the following:
1. Startup procedures
2. Shutdown procedures
3. Troubleshooting
4. Operating adjustments for performance optimization
5. Preventive maintenance
6. Maintenance procedures
7. Emergency procedures
8. Record keeping
9. Mechanical unit function and description
3.3.2 While conducting operational instruction and training, the Contractor shall perform, at
his expense, all materials to produce specified performance.
3.3.3 Other requirements for training shall be as described in the General Requirements.
