Handling Plastic Waste in Campus

Universities are one of the biggest contributors to waste in a city. With a

permanent 'resident' who is always at a university that has routine activities, even
on holidays, of course produces various types of waste every day. This is the
reason for the need for good and integrated waste management so that the campus
can also benefit from waste. Various kinds of plastic waste in campuses for
example are rubbish from the implementation of graduation activities which
usually leaves a lot of plastic rubbish, or plastic rubbish from used bottles which
are often used by students etc.

There are students who are aware to throw their plastic waste into the
trash, but there are still many who just throw the trash arbitrarily at any time, this
of course will reduce the value to the beauty of the campus and it also does not
reflect an educated student. In addition, if left unchecked plastic trash will
increasingly accumulate and there is no more place to dispose of plastic waste.

In fact there are various alternative ways to reduce plastic waste on

campus, including: changing the habit of using plastic beverage packaging every
time there are activities, we can change that habit by presenting dispensers, and
also by providing dispensers in every corner of the campus, then encouraging
students or lecturers to bring their own beverage bottles, providing appropriate
bins of their kind making it easier to manage the waste itself later, then making a
place of management independent waste for all the garbage that comes from
within the campus. If all universities can implement a system of independent
waste management, it is expected to be an example for the city government and
the community where the university is located. The most valuable contribution, of
course, is to reduce waste entering the landfill so that it can participate in
protecting and preserving the environment. and it is not wrong to hold community
service to clean up the campus environment.
