Upon completion of this course, students
should be able to:

CLO 2:
Solve problems systematically for preliminary
estimating method and quantity measurement in
relation to project estimation

2
BUILT UP RATES IN REINFORCEMENT WORK

3
BUILT UP RATES IN REINFORCEMENT WORK

 Reinforcement is divided into two (2)

types:

a. Bar reinforcement
 It consists either mild steel bar or
high tensile bar reinforcement.

b. Fabric reinforcement (BRC)

4
COST FACTORS IN REINFORCEMENT

1. Reinforcement
 It must be measured in kg. 5% must be added to
wastage because of cutting works.

2. Labour cost
 Cutting and bending need skilled labour while
placing (remove & binder) need bare labour.
 Labour output for cutting, bending, binding and
lifting to the BRC reinforcement.

3. Profit & overhead

 Normally, the estimator allows 10%-15% for profit
& overhead in calculating build-up rates.
5
SKILLED LABOUR

6
EXAMPLE 1
Calculate the built-up rates in 1 kg bar reinforcement 10
mm ø in foundation including cutting, bending and placing
in site.
