II. MY LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations.

An observation Guide for the Learners’ Characteristics

Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.

Name of the School: Quirino High School

Observed: IV - 6
Location of the School: Molave Street, Project 3, Quezon City

During the class, the students seem listening and aimed to participate during
the discussion. All of them following the rules that are posted inside the room. A
complete uniform is a must, and all of them are wearing one. Most students are in the
same age bracket, 15 years old and some are older by 1 to 2 years old. The class is
fairly divided in terms of gender, 28 students are boys and 25 are girls. Most of the
girls' students are starting to put makeup on their faces. Boys are the students that
lighten the moods inside the class by cracking jokes and teasing one another. In a time
that the teacher gives a quiz. All of them are working independently and seems that
they understand the lesson because most of them passed the quiz. From time to time,
the teacher is asking things for it holds the attention of the student and makes the
class more active and alive. Other students are showing off their intellectual
capabilities because most of the time, this student is aware and ready to answer their
teacher's questions.

An Observation Guide for the Classroom Visit

Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom management. It

is also good to ask the teacher for the additional information so you can verify your
observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the table that
follows.

1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books,
students’ belongings, supplies, etc.) Describe these areas.

Quirino High School is fully equid inside the class, they have books and modules for the
students. These books are either left by the student under their chairs or they bring it with
them. They have cabinets that fill with cleaning materials like, broom, coconut husk, map, etc.
Storage for visuals aids is confined inside the faculty room. They have cabinets for it or is just
lay on top of their tables

2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?

Rules are implanted by the teacher are located in the back part of the room near the
door. These rules are norm rules that are easy to follow. The same rule poster is also posted at
the entrance of the student building.

3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules? (Ask the Resource Teacher)

During my time staying in Quirino as a student. These rules are ever discussed by our
teachers to us before implementing it. I believe that making school rules before are always
discussed only by the teachers. But when the class election happened, other sets of rules are
added but these rules are never posted inside the class. These rules are given by the elected
Serjeant-at-arms of the class. These policies are a combination of Norm and Rule.

4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (Prayer, attendance, assignment of
monitors, warm-up activities. Etc.) How are they done?

When the teacher arrives at the class, the president of the class is the one who will
command the whole class to stand up and greet the teacher. There is a student who is assigned

to do the prayer. The officer for the class monitor is the one collecting the assignments, while
the teacher calling out their names for attendance.

5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?

The seating arrangement is normally assigned on the first or second day of the class.
Students are assigned to their seats according to their last name. The teacher is considerate and
allows the shorter students and students with visions difficulty to seat at the front row of the
class.

the question.

IV. My Reflections/Insights

1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners’ behavior?

Classroom organizational strategy is the one that makes things run inside the classroom
in a more appealing and order way. Students are being more productive and show more
respect to the teacher inside the room. It teaches the students to do what first whenever they
are confused or out of place in the class. It also improving to appreciate the value of time.

2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom organization
and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?

Inside the classroom. One thing is for sure. Students are diverse, they are different in a
lot of things like hobbies, talents, and attitudes. They must govern using a system that will cater
to all their needs and respect the values they have in terms of religion and cultural values.
Administering rules and routines must consider these issues to prevent miscommunication and
settled a more peaceful, pattered, and safe place for these children. Classroom organization
and routines are implemented on the first to the second-day meeting of the class. These must
be done repeatedly in order to understand and remember by the students. Providing time to
understand and analyze each individual inside the classroom by the teacher may be also
beneficial in other to change or alter the routines and procedure for those students who have
special needs.

3. Which strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In motivating
students? Why were they effective?

Dealing with students' behavior is also part of being a teacher. Teaching is not only
engaged at the academic level but also in correcting the behavioral aspect of the students. The
first thing that you need to deal with is how to respond properly in terms of behavior disruption
or minor distraction that a student will do during the discussion. Always set an expectation that
things may end not in the way you want it to happen. Expect that a student will always be a

FS 1 Classroom Management and Learning

student. They may annoy you, they may be slow to pick up rules, or just be the funny student in
the room. Setting an appropriate response to this scenario is a great way to handle the
situation. The most basic thing and yet, more tiresome strategy to do is utilizing the proximity
of the classroom. Being able to send your presence to the students by just walking around while
teaching is the best way to monitored or disrupt any unnecessary things that the student doing
inside the class like tapping a pen on their table, chatting with their seatmates, and student that
starting to feel bored or sleepy. This may give intimidation to them but also the best way to
interact with them and to help them with their activities, etc. Apply positive reinforcement,
more often. Give them compliments and motivate them to do better next time is the right way
to acknowledge their efforts inside the classroom. Give constructive criticism rather than judge
their works. Constructive criticism is to improve their works while judgment state that there are
wrong, and do it again from the scratch.

V. My Reflections/Insights

1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level do you
see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why?

I can see myself teaching in highschool, possibly 3rd – 4th-year students. I was not good
at dealing with children in preschool to elementary level. So that why I prefer a much older age
of students. This student is more able to understand what I was doing inside the class. That’s
why you better need to adjust and be more ready for them, like, you should be more
academically ready to answer all their queries. You should be more matured and behave
professionally in front of them but also giving them a chance to see that you are also
approachable and easy to talk to. Lastly, you also need to be more creative in teaching them.
Because these students is more eager to learn and more complex to think, so easy activities and
long boring speeches might be the reason to lose them during the discussion.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choose
these rules?

5. Deadline is a deadline to practice procrastination that can end up cheating. However,
allowing them to explain the reason for not meeting the
deadline is a sign that you care and you are willing to help them
and do better next time.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

Rules need to involve the capability of the child to follow it. The best way to make these
rules more possible and that you are assured that the students will follow it, is to let them be
part of developing rules for the class. For this, they will understand the meaning and
consequences of these rules. They are more obligated to follow the rules because they are the
one who makes it.
