Instructions to student
Schedule a suitable time with the trainer and assessor in week 4 of class to present and
discuss the workforce planning report and the workforce plan in simulated work
conditions.

The meeting aims to obtain agreement and endorsement of the workforce plan.

The trainer and assessor will play the role of the Managing Director, and a group of
classmates will play the part of the Operation manager, the HR manager and the Finance
and Administration Manager.

The trainer and assessor will observe and evaluate your performance during the Role-
Play.

Before the Role-Play

 Prepare the workforce planning report and the workforce plan


 Identify key talking points to justify the workforce plan
 Identify the non-negotiable
 Prepare to negotiate and respond to objections

During the Role-Play

 Explain the aim of the meeting


 Summarise the content of the workforce plan and explain why it is needed
 Outline workforce requirements
 Explain how the workforce plan will support the achievement of organisational
strategic and operational goals
 Provide an overview of the plan (scope, objectives, timelines, risks, budget etc...)
 Answer questions and provide information as required
 Gather feedback and inputs from the stakeholders attending the meeting
 Discuss any change/adjustment/refinement to the workforce plan
 Use language, format and style appropriate to the audience
 Use communication techniques such as summarising, rephrasing, questioning and
active listening
 Use negotiation techniques such as compromising, accepting, competing and
collaborating.

After the Role-Play

 Document the changes to the workforce plan agreed on with the stakeholders during
the meeting

 Finalise the workforce plan based on the changes agreed on with the stakeholders

If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to make alternative arrangements
with the trainer and assessor to undertake the Role-Play. You may only reschedule once.

Instructions to assessor
The student is required to schedule a suitable time with the trainer and assessor in week
4 of class to present and discuss the workforce planning report and the workforce plan in
simulated work conditions.

Observe and evaluate the performance of the student during the Role-Play.

 Print the Observation checklist before the Role-Play.


 Make sure to adjust this document to allow enough space for comments and
feedback.
 Discuss the requirements of the Role-Play with the student to make sure that
he/she is clear on what is expected.
 Observe and evaluate the performance of the student during the Role-Play using
the checklist provided
 Ask the student to answer the support questions in this document and provide
feedback
 Discuss the feedback with the student
 All parties to sign and date
 The student to submit the observation checklist with his/her assessment

You will be looking for the student’s demonstrated ability to apply the knowledge and
skills required to obtain agreement and endorsement for the workforce plan.
