Silver Lakes Garden Club

Minutes, November 17, 2020.

The meeting was called to order by Margaret Weber at 3:40 pm on

Peggy Shereda’s patio. Social distancing was observed and masks
were worn by all members. Nine members were present as well as
Bob Raake, our Board Representative.

Peggy read the minutes from April 9, 2019. They were approved, as
written. She also shared that Becky Vettiner has resigned from the
Garden Club due to a busier work schedule. She thanked us for th
opportunity.

Margaret gave the nancial report which shows a starting balance for
this season of $5,912.44.

Margaret discussed our lack of income for this year, given the
cancellation of our major event, raf e and desserts. She stated that
the of cers had met and a few ideas were presented. These were
1) A ower sale in January: the group was in favor and Kathy
Bisonic agreed to work with Peggy along with Darlene and
Margaret Raake. Nancy will handle advertising. It will be hel
in early January and has already gotten Activity Committee
approval. Other members will be needed as plans proceed.
2) Along with the above idea, Margaret Raake suggested that we
could sell foam kneelers with the garden club logo. Margaret
Weber is Researching this idea and will talk with Dominique
about the logo.
3) it was agreed that we will proceed with the Garden Tour
scheduled for March 7 however, there will be no home tour.
More to follow.
4) Darlene suggested that we have a “bake-less” bake sale in
which members would donate the price of the desserts they
Would have made. This will be discussed further when more
members are present.

Margaret then presented our nancial commitments for this year. As

you may recall, we had committed $5000 for 3 projects.
1) Bahamian shutters for front guard shack: (approximately
$2,000). Since all members were in favor of this, we will
proceed with this project.
2) Topaz project: ($500) this project did not get done this
summer, therefore we asked that it be put on hold.
3) Contribution to ag pole ($2,500). Tim and the Board have
agreed that we can pay $1,000 now and $1,500 in Sprin
Of 2022.
4) We will need some funds to replace plants for large pots
at entrance to DCH and to replace and freshen some
plants that didn’t do well over the summer.
By making a little income and ful lling our commitments, we should
have around $3000 to end this season and start the 2001/2002 season.

NewBusiness

A. Watering Schedule: Chautzie sent out the watering schedule for

this season based on the information she has on who will be here.
Margaret distributed a temporary schedule for Nov and Dec. if there
are others in the park or come in before Jan, please let Peggy know
so we can add you to the schedule.

B. Work group: we will do a plant clean up and Osmocote application

on Monday, Nov 23 at 9:30 am. Please meet at Diamond pool and
bring gloves and pruners. We will then decide what needs to be
purchased.

C. Peggy and Margaret will meet with George on Thursday to hang

the wall art at the pools.

Other

A. Please, please! Read and Respond to emails! In trying to put

together the watering schedule, Chautzie had to make many time-
consuming phone calls. This is not fair. If you don’t know how to
respond, we’re happy to show you or a phone call will work too.

With fewer meetings this year, we may need to communicate more via
email so, please, check email daily and respond, if asked.

B. Future meetings: since we have very few activities this season

and since full-member meetings will be dif cult, we will only meet
monthly. We are exploring several options and will have to have our
plan approved by the Activities Committee. We will notify members
when a decision is made. Some options include the club house, an
open lot and a zoom option for those who are not comfortable with
attending in person.

We all agreed that it will be a very low keyed season. Margaret and
Peggy suggested that we enjoy an “easy” year and put our efforts
into the few projects we will have and making our plantings beautiful.

The meeting adjourned at 4:30.

Respectfully Submitted
Peggy Shered
