Activity

Design an example to apply the strategy called “Read-Aloud Plus” to adolescent learners from a basic
level.

The strategy about “Read-Aloud Plus” is valuable because it incorporates the modeling of fluent,
expressive reading of English text with techniques for clarifying vocabulary, also this strategy lets students
to increase their comprehension about the topic. [ CITATION Adr16 \l 12298 ]

The example that I have prepared is about a class where I am going to use didactic material that
involves some reading about the history of Portovelo, that is the place where I live. To do the activity, I am
going to read with my students the book called “Alice Lovel Kellogg, Viajera”. [ CITATION Sig18 \l 12298 ]
This book has been written in Spanish version, but I am going to use the English version to my students.
Also, I have prepared some flashcards with some words that can be strange for my students. I mean, I
have planned some vocabulary activity where students are going to familiarize with these words after to
listen the reading. At the beginning of the class the teacher is going to stablish the how the activities are
going to be developed. Therefore, I am going to read aloud the summary of the book that I mentioned
before, doing stops to clarify some vocabulary, the students are going to be focused on the listening
about the story. After that, I am going to present some photos about the reading, in fact students are
going to participate improving their language describing easy sentences about the pictures that has been
showed. Then, after the reading, I am going to do some questions for students about the reading and
clarify the words that are consider like new vocabulary. Also, students are going to participate with the
flashcards that contains unknown words for them creating a simple sentence using the word from the
flashcard. After doing this activity, students are going to develop an assessment, where they are going to
create a little history using some words of the vocabulary. I think that these activities will contribute that
the students boost their skills to gain knowledge and to understand better the second language.
