PD Sandvik CH&CS CRUSHER Vegapuls 67 and Vegamet 624 1. Introduction

1.1 Equipment information

The purpose of this additional equipment is to control the flow of material to
be processed, in order to maintain the optimum feed level and operation of
the crusher.
This document gives information on how to adapt and install the equipment
to function in conjunction with the Sandvik SRP AB crusher and its
surrounding equipment.
For further information on the equipment see enclosed product manuals.

1.2 Product description

The sensor Vegapuls 67 measures continuously the feed level in the crusher’s
feed hopper. The Vegamet 624, which is mounted in the L11 box, or in an
appropriate switchgear cabinet, receives the measured value and puts it in
relation to the programmed maximum and minimum values.

2.1 Mounting instructions

2.1.1 Vegapuls 67
The Vegapuls 67 is to be mounted on the feed hopper or crusher structure to
enable measurement of the supplied material. Depending on if the feed
hopper is equipped with a dust encapsulating top or not, there are two
optional ways to mount the sensor Vegapuls 67.

1 2 3

1 Feed hopper flange

2 Holder assembly
(open feed hopper)
3 Dust encapsulating top
4 Holder assembly
(closed feed hopper)

Guiding principles for the choice of location

• The optimum position for the sensor is close to the outer wall.
• The sensor should be oriented towards the outlet of the feed hopper or to
the point where build up of material occurs.
• Make sure there are no struts or other obstacles in the way for the radar
signals.

The Vegapuls 67 sensor is to be placed on the flange of the open feed hopper
or on a suitable place of the crusher structure.
a) Drill two holes on the location spot according to the measurements of the
Vegapuls 67 sensor holder assembly.
b) Mount the holder on the flange with two screws, washers and nuts.
c) To adjust the angle of the Vegapuls 67 sensor: loosen the nuts of the
holder assembly’s parts and direct the Vegapuls 67 sensor according to
previous guiding principles.
d) When finished tighten the nuts to secure the adjusted position.

The Vegapuls 67 sensor is to be placed on the dust encapsulating top of the
closed feed hopper.
a) Decide the location of the Vegapuls 67 sensor according to previous
guiding principles.
b) When the location is set, cut out a hole in the sheet metal of the dust
encapsulating top. The size should be less than 200 x 200 mm.
c) Take away all removable parts from the metal plate construction. This
includes nuts, washers, black and white mounting flanges and the
Vegapuls 67 sensor.
d) Weld together the metal plate construction with the dust encapsulating
top so that the plate covers the hole completely.
e) Reassemble the plate with the black and white flanges and the Vegapuls
67 sensor, but do not tighten the nuts.
f) Adjust the angle of the Vegapuls 67 sensor, according to previous
guiding principles. Do this by turning the two parts of the black
mounting flange.
g) When finished, tighten the nuts to secure the adjusted position.

2.1.2 Vegamet 624

For crusher CH870 and CH880
The Vegamet 624 is premounted in the connection box, L11, that comes with
the current crusher. The Vegamet 624 consists of the signal conditioning
instrument and a plug-in socket.
For other crusher types
The Vegamet 624 must be placed in an appropriate switchgear cabinet.

3.2.2 Adjustment of minimum and maximum values

Preparations
Minimum and maximum values, for the sensor to accept, are set in the
Vegamet 624 by connecting specific distances to percentage values. Before
starting the software adjustment the following measurements need to be
done:
– distance (A) from the sensor to a reference plane representing the
lowest acceptable feed level in the feed hopper.
– distance (B) from the sensor to a reference plane representing the
highest acceptable feed level in the feed hopper.

A B

A Distance A
B Distance B

Procedure
To carry through the software adjustment follow procedure below:
a) Push OK-button (4) to reach the menu overview.
b) Move the indicator by pushing the arrow button (3). Do this until the
menu item “Adjustment” is marked.
c) Confirm your choice by pushing the OK button (4).
