Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Soccer The Basics

Objectives:
Students will be able to learn how to dribble a soccer ball
Students will be able to identify and understand the basics of soccer
State Standards: E.N.1.11.SL1: Pass and/or receive with feet
in simple conditions with prompting
(physical, visual, or verbal).
E.N.1.10.A.SL1: Dribble a ball with soft taps
using the insides of the feet from a stationary
position with or without prompting (physical,
visual, or verbal).

Context: I am teaching this lesson on soccer to introduce the sport to my students in my

physical education class. Before teaching this lesson, I will have gone over at the end of last
class what we would be doing in this class and the students were responsible to look up and
explore the sport of soccer so that they would have a good idea when they get to class. After this
lesson students should understand the basics of soccer and how to dribble and pass the ball, so
that for the next class they are able to play a full game for game day. Depending on what the
next sport I am teaching is will change how I go about forming the next lesson.

Data: Students will be grouped based on how they filled out the exit slip in the last class that
asked students on a scale of 1-10 how much do they know about the game of soccer. I will group
the students based on these results. After the lesson I will have a short quiz on the game of
soccer and for future groupings I will base it on how well they did on the quiz
Materials: Soccer ball, YouTube, paper, pencil, gym, field access, ipads,
List all materials used (i.e. websites, apps, pencils, iPads, computers, worksheets, diagrams,
textbooks, etc.)
Detailed paragraphs from here on down.
Procedures:
Introduction (-20 minutes): I will start the lesson by asking the students if they were able
to find information on the sport of soccer. After I call on a couple of people, I will then begin to
explain to them what we will be doing in class today. I will begin to do a brief presentation on
soccer and explain some of the basics before I explain to the class about the groups, they will be
in. I will explain to the class that I have already assigned the groups and they are numbered 1-4. I
will then begin to explain each station and then I will have all the 1s go to the first station and the
2s to the second, etc.

Teacher Directed (--15 minutes): For this part if the lesson we will start by me
explaining over the basics of dribbling a soccer ball and them watching me do it. Then we will
watch a video( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcHJJ1SnwSk) together of an expert
explaining how to dribble the soccer ball. This video will give the students a different
perspective from someone other than there teacher. Once we are done watching the video, I will
have cones set up and students will line up one by one in the group and take turns dribbling
around the cones.

Collaborative (--15 minutes): In this group the student will sit over in the corner on there
ipads and they will be grouped in pairs of 2s. While in this group I will have an
assignment/WebQuest for them to fill out during this time. It will be a mix of soccer questions
based off of the rules and also different names of soccer moves and soccer players. Once
students are done with the WebQuest they will turn it in to the google classroom folder I have
provided and the students that get the most answers will be rewarded.

Independent Digital (--15 minutes): During this portion of the class students will sit by
themselves and on there ipads they will watch (onlinesocceracademy.com) highlights of soccer
players dribbling through defenders and showing off there moves. Once they are done with the
video, I will ask the students to write a reflection on the soccer moves they saw and what they
can take away from these videos. This will be a good way to show kids how to study moves and
practice them themselves.

Closure (-20-minutes): At the end of the lesson I will have the students all come together
as a class and we will set up the goals in the gym and they will play a game trying to practice and
dribble the ball up and down and have fun and use what they learned throughout the class that
day. When there is about 5 minutes left in the class I will have the students take a mini survey
where I will ask them “after having this class what do you rate your skills and knowledge of
soccer out of 10”. This will be a good way for me to asses if my lesson was good or not.
Rationale:
Google classroom is a lesson tool because it provides an opportunity for me to track the
students work and also and easy way for me to post assignments for the students to do
and they have an easy way of turning it in because it is all provided in the program. I
know it is high quality because a lot of people use it and it is recommended from the
professional level.

Online soccer academy is a good website to use for this lesson because it provided the
students film and highlights of soccer moves and rules so that the students had a good
opportunity to watch and see the game if they have never watched or seen it before. It is
interactive because it lets you pause and see things you want to see by zooming in and out.
Everything I have looked at and seen of this website makes it look very professional and a nice
tool for students to look at.
