Lesson Title:
Physical Education: Introduction to Offense in Basketball
Objectives:
Students will be able to:
Properly shoot a basketball.
Preform dribble moves with both hands
State Standards:
Standard 1 – The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns. (Psychomotor).
Context: Students will learn how to participate on the offensive side of the game
“basketball”. This will give students the opportunity to learn different games to exercise
while having fun. Students have previously learned the basic rules and fundamentals of
basketball. Children who have already practiced this sport can bring their own skill set and
a good attitude to improve things they’ve learned prior from past classes or coaches.
Defense will be taught after the offense. Teaching things like sportsmanship, fair play and
teamwork will work well with transitioning into my next topic intro to soccer.
Data: Students will be grouped in groups of 2. Students will be paired together based on
their skill set and knowledge for the game seen from prior lessons. Students will be
observed and recorded at each station they choose and will fill out an exit slip on the
knowledge they gained or certain things they still need to improve on.
Materials: List all materials used (i.e. websites, apps, pencils, iPads, computers, worksheets,
diagrams, textbooks, etc.)

Closure (5 minutes):
At the end of the lesson, I will round the students up and hand out an exit slip that contains the
questions asking them what they think their strengths are so far, what they think they need to improve
on, and if basketball is something they will take part in outside the classroom.
Rationale:
(Basketball Smartboard PowerPoint) : This interactive provides students with the basic
knowledge of what the lesson will be about and what they will do/learn throughout the class. It
allows students to properly see how to correctly shoot a basketball, and how to dribble. It also
provides students with some background knowledge on the game of basketball as well as ways to
improve their game. The students will also take an interactive quiz at the end of the smart board.
I would do a better job at making the presentation more exciting for students to listen to. The
material can be reused and provides feedback to myself on where my students stand. I have been
in multiple classes where smart boards were used. It is an effective high-quality multimedia that
helps a teacher provide materials for students to use in a lesson. The smart board allows
students to be interactive and is very clear and simple for students to follow.
(Hudl): This app allows students to video record their activity and allow the student the ability to
do a range of things consisting of slowing down the video, measuring certain points in the video,
etc. This lets a student watch how they are participating and gives them the opportunity to
change what they think is wrong while watching how they performed. Hudl is a 4-str app on the
app store and has been reviewed and used by multiple teachers in different subjects, all
producing well results. This app is very complex and a little hard to navigate. Students may have
a difficult time the first time finding out what buttons do what and where to find the right
buttons. This multimedia platform allows the student to interact with their own work on the spot
and helps them individually reflect and help sculpt their own game. This will help them correct
minor mistakes and let the student see for themselves what they are doing wrong.
