ACTIVITY FOR DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

Disaster Management

My area is not that vulnerable like in other places. Sometimes when the typhoon is

strong, we lose our electricity power and some trees are falling in our barangay. 10 is

the scale I rate my preparedness during a calamity such as typhoon and earthquake. In

any calamity, we keep ourselves updated on what is happening in the movement of the

typhoon, the current situation of taal volcano and number of cases of coronavirus in our

municipality. Our radio is always open and we always visit the page of PAGASA,

PHIVOLCS and LGU San Pascual so that we get notified and hear the latest news

about typhoon, earthquake and number of cases in our area. We listen to weather

advisories and follow any early warning instructions and advisories. My father always

make sure that he inspect and fix our house such as damaged doors and holes in our

roofs before typhoon. He also cuts the branches of trees near the house or electricity

power line to prevent it from falling. We store ample amount of ready-to-eat foods such

as canned goods and biscuits and clean water. We make sure that the foods and water

is adequate enough and will last for few days. When there is strong typhoon, we unplug

any electrical appliances in our home. We always have our emergency kits that include

first-aid supplies, medicines, candles, lighter and flashlights. We packed our clothes that

will last a week. In a sealed plastic bag, we store the important documents like birth
certificates, marriage contract and licenses. We always make sure that our gadgets and

power banks are fully charged. If there is no advice to evacuate, we stay inside our

house. We keep ourselves calm and keep monitoring the typhoon’s movement through

internet, radio or television.

and earthquake by filling out the table below. Put a check on the numerical rating of 1-5

wherein 5 is the highest. Discuss to the class your level of preparedness.

I rate 5 for water because water is very important in our daily lives. In our home

we ensure that we have a stock of clean water for drinking, cooking and cleaning. We

make sure that it will last for several days so that it will no longer be a problem to us. I

rate 5 for food supplies because it is a basic need of a human being. We go to grocery

before the occurrence of typhoon or other natural disaster so that we do not starve

during the typhoon. I rate 5 for first-aid supplies because it is essential during the

disaster. I rate 5 for utensils because it is important example of this are the plastic cups,

fork, spoon and other utensils. I rate 5 for safety items like boots, face shields,

facemasks, gloves, overalls and others. It is essential because without using this safety

items, something bad may happens to you when you go out that you are not wearing it.

I rate 5 for documents, because it is very important thing. All of our documents are

placed in a sealed plastic envelope so that it will not be wet by the rain or lost. I rate 5

for other items like clothes and gadgets. Some of our clothes are placed inside our bags

so that we are always ready if there are forced evacuation in our area. All of our

gadgets and flashlights are fully charged so that we can use it when there is power

interruption in our area.
