Q-01. An oil with (s=0.XX) (where XX is 2nd and last digits of your roll number) and u=3.6*10-3 lb.s/ft2
is flowing in a pipe of dia 4” with a flow rate of 2.((YY+5)/2)-ft3/s (where YY is last two digits of your
roll number).
a) Find whether flow is laminar or not?
a) Find and sketch shear stress distribution across pipe section.
b) Also find head loss per unit inch of pipe.

<<< (Flow rate for roll number 17201 is 2.((01+5)/2)=2.3 where for 17222 is 2.((22+05)/02=13.5)=2.135 >>>
<<< Specific gravity for 17201 is 0.71 and for 17202 is 0.72 >>>

Q-2: Water is being transported from an overhead (figure.01) in a asphalt-dipped cast-iron pipe (with
Reentrant entrance). Length of pipe B&C are 200’ (Add last two digits of your roll number) and 300’
(Add last two digits of your roll number) respectively. Find flow arte in each pipe and pressure at P.

<<< e.g For 17201 pipe lengths are 201 and 301 respectively. >>>
Q-03:

(i) Carry out the comparison of different available dimensional analysis methods and briefly explain
their purpose?
(ii) The power required by an agitator in a tank is a function of the following variables:
Diameter of the agitator, Number of rotations of the impeller per unit time,
Viscosity of liquid and Density of liquid.
From dimensional analysis using Buckingham's method, obtain a relation between
power and the four variables?
