INTERPRETING TECHNICAL DRAWINGS
AND PLANS
In the electrical world, signs, symbols, and data are evident. They are used in
technical drawings and plans where these symbols represent electrical components
and materials. The electrical signs are used to keep the electrical practitioners to be
safe in the workplace and also in operating power tools and machines. That is why
these are necessary for you as a future electrician to have an understanding of
these.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Activity 1 Keep Me Safe

Directions:
In your own understanding, read, and interpret the electrical signs below.
Write your answer on the table opposite to the sign. Note: The first one
is provided for you.

Signs Meaning Interpretation

ABSTRACTION

This module will help you realize the importance of knowing and
understanding electrical signs, symbols, and data.

11
The Electrical Signs

Electric signs and stickers warn students, staff, and visitors to electrical
hazards in the vicinity. Alerting staff to high-voltage zones, electrical hazards, power
lines, and other electrical equipment in the field can help avoid fires and injuries.

Signs Meaning and Definition

CAUTION indicates some precautionary measures

against potential hazardous situations which, if not
avoided, may result in a minor or moderate injury.

SAFETY ALERT means that extra caution should be

observed.

PROHIBITION means that any practice is not permissible

as shown by the sign.

DANGER defines a dangerous situation which, if not

prevented, can result in serious injury or even death.

WARNING defines a potentially dangerous situation

which, if not diverted, may result in serious injury or even
death.

READ AND UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTION MANUAL

means that a person should do some reading prior to any
action.

WEAR EYE PROTECTION implies that a person should

wear safety goggles or other relevant eye protection.

ELECTRICAL HAZARD means that there is an electrical

hazard in the area.

VOLTAGE DANGER indicates a high voltage in the area

and surrounding equipment.
