Cause and Effect of Engagement
1. What does an engaged employee look like?

1. Mini scenarios presenting various employees in their day-to-day tasks. Learners must judge the
employee as engaged or disengaged. Feedback will speak to aspects and outcomes of engagement.

2. Cause and effect of employee (dis)engagement

1. Aspects of engagement (cause) - each of these aspects plays a role in how an employee is engaged
or disengaged at work. One influences another in a domino-like effect. This will be represented by
three simple shapes with arrows pointing from each aspect to the other two. Clicking on each will
display the definitions below.

1. Cognitive - an employee’s perception of their work environment

2. Emotional - how an employee feels about their work environment

3. Behavioral - how employees perform in their environment

2. In-role and Extra-role performance are the outcomes of an employee’s efforts (effected by their
thoughts/feelings/behaviors in/within their work environment) 'Aspects' graphic moves to the side to
make way for another simple graphic that represents the following:

1. Performance - in-role performance and extra-role performance

2. Behavioral - turnover-intention, work–life conflict, and workaholism

3. Attitudinal - organizational commitment and job satisfaction

4. Clicking on the three above will offer examples of what each looks like.

3. Select the employees

1. Another set of mini scenarios. Learners must choose from the selection of employees that are
disengaged and identify the potential cause of disengagement.
