PROCEDURE FOR RADIOGRAPHY:

1. INTRODUCTION:

Radiography is an NDT method performed for the identifying defects &

discontinuities in the metal thickness and welding not exposed to the
surface. Its unique advantage over other NDT methods is that it presents a
permanent record.

This is generally used in quality control of welding, fabrication & condition

monitoring of equipment.

1.1 PROCEDURE:

1.1.1 Basic requirement of radiography are as followings.

a. An enclosure or a cordoned area to operate the equipment.

b. X-ray source or gamma source certified by BARC.

c. Recording medium like radiographic film and accessories to handle

& process film.

d. Evaluating equipment like illuminator.

e. BARC qualified radiographer to perform the radiography under the

supervision of BARC qualified radiography site In charge

1.1.2 Depending upon the requirements as per governing specification for

piping, the selection of joints for radiography is chosen. For equipments
like tanks, vessels, exchangers etc. only spot radiography is selected, as
per required codes and practices.

1.1.3 The identified joints are mentioned /shown to the IPCL approved agency.

1.1.4 Radiography is performed by IPCL approved agency.

1.1.5 Once the radiographs are received along with the report from the
contractor in their pro-forma the interpretation of radiographs are done by
