Answer all questions

5. a) Explain the principle and working of constant temperature hot wire anemometer with neat
sketch? (4)
b) Prove that for Fanno flow, the condition of flow at maximum entropy point is sonic. (2)
6. a) A combustion chamber in gas turbine plant receives air at 350K, 0.55bar and 75m/s. The air
fuel ratio is 29 and the calorific value of the fuel is 41.87MJ/kg. Determine i) Initial and final
Mach numbers ii) Final pressure, Temperature and velocity of the gas iii) Percentage pressure
loss in combustion chamber and iv) Maximum stagnation pressure attainable. (4)
b). Explain the working Principle of Supersonic pitot tube (2)
7. a) Air is flowing in an insulated duct with friction coefficient f=0.002 with an inlet velocity of
130 m/s. The temperature and pressure are 400 K and 250 kPa. The diameter of the duct is
116cm.Find
i)Length of the pipe if stagnation pressure loss is 20%
ii)Pressure, Temperature and velocity at a section 3.5m from the inlet.
iii) Maximum length of the pipe. (4)
b) Explain the working Principle of interferometer (2)
