I have applied for Accounting and Finance at the LUMS.

From the beginning itself I had always enjoyed

numbers and the logic they brought about, unlike many other more theoretical subjects, math and
accounts drew me towards them. Although I had opted for sciences at my O-Levels and had plans to go
to some engineering field in the future I took Accounting as an extra subject as my heart was left skewed
towards its practical approach. Little did I know then I would pursue it in the future.

Even while I had success in my science subjects especially Physics in which i managed a regional
distinction in my IGCSEs, it was primarily due to the astronomical amount of Mathematics it had in it.

Money too always fascinated me. My father shared some reminiscences of my past revealing how
curious and thoughtful I was when it came to handling money. For instance, meticulously purchasing
juices to get the extra milliliters per unit cost or buying a bigger pack of cheese to get more of it for an
otherwise higher price at an exceptionally early age always astonished him. My father always wanted
me to do something in the business field, essentially due to him finding success through business, but he
had given me absolute liberty over what I wanted to opt. I am sure he knew I innately had in me
accountancy and at long last it is where I would set my final foot on.

Discuss your ambitions, skills, and experience, and how they will help you succeed in your
chosen major/academic.

I have colossal ambitions set in life for me. This bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance
from LUMS is just a stepping stone which will take me closer to the ultimate objective. Challenges
invariably captivate me and to become a Chartered Accountant (my ambition) either through ICAP
or ICAEW proved to me, after extensive research, something that would require from me to burn
the candle at both ends.

At an extraordinarily early age, I was entrusted by my father to manage household expenses, as

he used to be away from town and I was frugal unlike my mother. Not only did I then enjoy being
in charge of the money, I logically devised ways of keeping an account of everything. My father,
since then, started unveiling ways of keeping record, correcting my drawn-out techniques, hence
introducing accounting to me unknowingly long before I started studying it. This practical
experience has surely forever strengthened my basic understanding of financing.

Decision making is an integral part of the course I have chosen here at LUMS. Being the House
Captain at The Lyceum and the Captain of the cricket team of The Lyceum has charged me up
with immensely invaluable managerial skills (conducting house rallies and sports days) and
enhanced my decision-making abilities (field placement/bowler selection/batsmen selection) to a
great extent. I am certain with the right amount of motivation and meticulous planning I will be
able to achieve the goal I have placed for me.
