Burmese Migrant Workers Education Committee (BMWEC)

BMWEC was established in 1999-2000 at Thai-Myanmar Border as a membership


organization to promote coordinated work among member schools, parent teacher
associations and all stakeholders to build quality migrant education system in the
safe environment. BMWEC aims to improve Migrant Education to Asian standard.

Position Title : Operations Director

JOB SUMMARY
The Director takes a lead person role to lead BMWEC team under guidance of Board
of Director. The Operations Director takes responsibilities to make sure BMWEC is
implemented according to the BMWEC Strategic Planning to achieve organization
activities and adjust with changing context by following Thailand Government rules
and regulations, local government administrative procedures, donor policies and
BMWEC policies. The Operations Director needs to supervise the operation team to
support organization activities and produce quality regular reports and document,
project activities to align with strategic planning and donor requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Program
1. Leading role to organize, facilitate and promote strong coordination mechanism
among BMWEC members, Thailand, and Myanmar appropriate authorities
2. Facilitate real time information dissemination among member schools to adjust
the activities to fit well with local context in transparent way
3. Strengthen BMWEC management system to become a model strong management
system with appropriate operation policies
4. Mentor member school staff to set up tailor strong management system in their
schools by referencing the BMWEC management system
5. Explore opportunities to continue leaning opportunities for the member schools’
teachers to teach recognized standard curriculum
6. Innovative ways to apply to get opportunities to continue tertiary education for
migrant school graduates.
7. Strengthen Parents Teachers Association
8. Build strong relationship with existing donors and explore other funding
opportunities
9. Explore alternative or direct feasible social support for long serving migrant
teachers

Operation
1. Take responsibility to make sure BMWEC strategic planning direction to achieve
by supervising BMWEC office and its staff
2. Oversee finance, procurement, and HR related issues
3. Organize regular Board meetings, regular general meeting, special meeting as
needed and other coordination meeting make sure all are documented
4. Make sure to produce timely quality regular reports to send relevant government
departments, donors, BMWEC Advisory Committee, member schools, parents,
and community members
5. Promote and ensure gender and cultural appropriate approach in programming
6. Perform ad hoc duties assigned by the Advisory Committee

REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor degree or equivalent in Community Development, Education, Social
Science and Humanitarian Services or other relevant education. Experience in
education sector will be plus.
2. At least five years of project management experience.
3. Being able to review project description, work plan, budget, and project related
activities.
4. Experience in Project management, Monitoring Evaluation and Learning of non-
governmental organization.
5. Understanding of basic concept of community development, gender issue, Strong
team building, training, facilitation, and mentoring skills
6. Good Myanmar, Thai and English language skill is required
7. Proficiency in local languages spoken in Karen state is a plus.
8. Ability to use computer with Microsoft applications.
9. Experience in proposal writing, training, practical skill building and awareness
raising
10. Understanding of the Thailand Myanmar context
11. Ability to work under pressure and in multicultural environment
