Have you been listened perceptively to selected 20th century music? Have you ever
described distinctive musical elements of given pieces in the 20th century styles and have you
been related of its music with its historical and cultural background? As a 20th century
advocates we will expand awareness in different periods of history and we will encourage
unbiased opinions to all types of music available today and understand its functions in the 20 th
century world.
Music of the 20th century saw the rise of distinct musical styles that reflected a move
away from the conventions of earlier Western Classical music.
Let’s start the module by gathering ideas about 20 th century musical style. As we go
through this weekly module. You will listen to Bartok’s Sixth Dance in Bulgarian Rhythm,

After you listen the video, you need to answer the following questions.

In the previous activity, we observed the music of the 20 th century musical style, we
identify the dominant musical element, we name the form of piece and we describe the
tonality and rhythmic characteristic of the piece.and we are now to proceed to another

For an introduction, you will have an activity it is Concept mapping, using this
concept map, write all the things that you know about Expressionism
After learning the Expressionism using Concept map, we understand about its
history, people and musical composition. You will have an activity called
Listening and Composing.

What to do :
• Listen to other music compositions in Expressionism.
• Once familiar with the pattern through listening, try to
create your own retrograde, inversion and retrograde-
inversion scale.
• Create a painting showing characteristics of

Let’s start the lesson by gathering ideas about Electronic Music and Musical
Composition. As we go through this weekly module. \
Electronic Music
After learning the Electronic Music and Chance Music, please proceed to another
activity, you will have an activity called Composition by Chance.
Materials:
If a keyboard is available or any other gadget with a keyboard
application, you may use it.
Procedures:
1. Choose how to create chance music, either by using
phone number or pages on a book or things that you
know can be used to create a composition by chance.

Impressionism, and Expressionism and you explain the Electronic Music and
Chance Music. You are now proceeding to your last activity.
