Have you been listened perceptively to selected 20th century music? Have you ever
described distinctive musical elements of given pieces in the 20th century styles and have you
been related of its music with its historical and cultural background? As a 20th century
advocates we will expand awareness in different periods of history and we will encourage
unbiased opinions to all types of music available today and understand its functions in the 20 th
century world.
Music of the 20th century saw the rise of distinct musical styles that reflected a move
away from the conventions of earlier Western Classical music.

Let’s start the module by gathering ideas about 20 th century musical style. As we go

understand the Impressionism, we identify its music, culture, art and people and
we are now to proceed to please proceed to another activity, you will consider
the following Impressionist painting and Impressionist music in terms of
applications and cultural influence and answer the following questions.

Expressionism.

Expressionism and its History

Is a modernist movement that started in Germany at the beginning of the 20th


and was initially an expression in painting and poetry? The evokes moods and ideas for
which the artists seeks to express meaning or emotion experience rather than the
physical reality.

Let’s start the lesson by gathering ideas about Electronic Music and Musical
Composition. As we go through this weekly module. \

Electronic Music

Is the process of creating music computers in synthesizing or producing digital


audio signals? Using this electronic way of producing sound, we can produce music out
of range of traditional musical instruments and create other sound from nature and the
environment which are of larger range, higher pitch, and with different qualities of
sound.

After learning the Electronic Music and Chance Music, please proceed to another
activity, you will have an activity called Composition by Chance.

Materials:
If a keyboard is available or any other gadget with a keyboard
application, you may use it.

Procedures:
1. Choose how to create chance music, either by using
phone number or pages on a book or things that you
know can be used to create a composition by chance.

2. Once process is selected like the use of phone numbers,


place it on the staff to display the composed music.

3. Once the manual composition is complete, transfer it to


the computer application that generates the composed
sound; if not available, play it manually using the keyboard with one who knows
how to play the instruments and record your manual composition and send it via
messenger.
