METHOD OF STATEMENT
ERECTION WORKS

1.0 Sequence of Works:

Receiving and sorting of Tower Parts or Pole Sections at the stockyard.

a. Area designated for sorting out of Tower/Pole Parts/Sections shall be cleared prior to delivery of
Tower/Pole Parts/Sections. As far as practical the area shall be leveled and drains shall be
constructed in and around of the area.

b. Tower/Pole Parts/Sections stored at stockyard shall be kept clear of ground by placing timber or
concrete spacers between the ground and Tower/Pole Parts/Sections. Adequate spacers shall be
provided when stacking bundle one on top of another, where applicable.

c. Prior to delivery of Tower/Pole Parts/Sections, person in charge shall assign the area of storing for
each tower/pole type. It shall be separated in groups based on the tower/pole type and within
each group it shall be divided in to sub-groups such as common body, body extension, leg
extension etc. in order to simplify the collection of Tower/Pole Parts/Sections for particular
tower/pole location.

d. Care shall be taken to prevent deterioration or damage to the galvanizing during lifting,
transportation, storage and erection. Once the pole sections have been stored or the bundles of
tower parts have been opened, it shall be examined for any defect including white rust. The
affected areas shall be cleaned of white rust and shall be touched up with approved galvanized
paint.

e. All tower parts or pole sections shall be stamped during manufacturing with distinguished erection
marks as shown on erection drawing and Bill of Material.

f. Marking and numbering of each bundles shall clearly marked by manufacturer, to enable easy
identification of each bundles during sorting out at stockyard.

g. Bolts, Nuts and Washers shall be packed separately.

2.0 Distribution Of Tower/Pole Parts/Sections

a. Prior to transport of tower/pole parts/sections to tower/pole location, the required sections,

tower members, plates, and bolts(assembled with nuts and washers) shall be separated and clearly
marked for the particular tower/pole number, type, and if applicable the body and/or leg
extension portion.

b. Manual loading method or forklift or crane shall be used for loading of the tower/pole
parts/sections into the lorry. Timber shall be used below and in between loaded tower/pole
parts/sections, when they are loaded one on top of the other. Over loading of the truck shall not
be allowed, loaded tower/pole parts/sections shall be secured to the lorry's by mean of belts or
sling wires. Bolts and nuts shall be packed into bags of 25kg to 50kg of weight.

c. Prior to offloading of tower/pole parts/sections at tower/pole location, the off-loading area shall
be cleared. It shall be offloaded over the timber logs placed on to the ground. Vertical piling of
tower/pole parts/section shall be limited in height to prevent danger from overturning.

d. Offloading of tower/pole parts/sections shall consider the assembly and erection procedure, so
that the first part to be assembled should not be offloaded below the parts needed for assembly
and erection later.

3.0 Assembly On The Ground

a. Pre-assembled section/panels and/or members shall be in accordance with erection drawing for
the particular tower/pole location. Weight of section/panel to be lifted up should not exceed safe
working load for Derrick and/or Crane, where applicable. For the sake of safety, the weight of such
panel as far as practicable should not exceed 1.5 ton.

b. Bolts shall be fixed with nuts on the outsides of the structure or on bottom side of the member I
section wherever possible.

c. To minimize the time of erection works all smaller member bracing shall attach to its
corresponding main members or bigger diagonals, at least on one side.

d. Prior to erection, tower/pole parts/sections shall be checked for completeness and in case of
shortage of any of tower parts shall be reported to stock yard to arrange for the required
members.

e. Any shortage of main members, as determined by the engineer or Project Manager, shall be
notified for immediate delivery before the erection can be carried out and/or resumed.

4.0 Erection of the Tower

a. Prior to erection of any tower/pole, stub-setting or anchor bolts setting dimensions of the
tower/pole to be erected shall be re-checked and re-confirmed against the stubsetting or anchor
bolt setting drawing and/or foundation drawing and/or checklist. In case of any significant
differences, the supervisor/engineer in charge shall be informed and the erection works shall hold
until further instruction.

b. First four (4) legs shall be erected manually with help of ropes. Place the derrick close to the tower
leg and by using winch, sling wires and ropes, the derrick shall be lifted up to the first tower leg

erected earlier.

c. Prepare anchor points for the upper derrick anchors. Tower leg shall be used as anchor points.
Level hoist shall be used for inclining and controlling of derrick during the process of erection of
tower. In some cases, a set of two double pulleys and 18mm nylon rope could be used for
controlling of the upper side of the derrick. Care shall be taken that rope used is at least 18mm
diameter and is in sound and good condition.

d. Secure wire rope guys to derrick and by level hoist to anchor points.

e. Once the derrick is erected to near vertical position, secure all guys maintaining equal tension.
Final position of the derrick shall be erected by releasing/pulling level hoist.

f. Check security of the derrick anchors before start of erection works. In case of very wide tower
base, derrick can be lifted above one leg or between two adjoining legs. Site su ervisor or Foreman
shall check securit of anchors.

g. Tower shall be erected in assembled panels or one by one for heavier members (especially main
members). During lifting of pre-assembled panels, ropes shall be attached at the bottom for
controlling lifting. If wire rope slings are used for lifting, gunny sheet shall be wrapped around
steel/tower member to protect against abrasion. Non- abrasive sling shall be used.

h. Fit internal tower bracings.

i. Check the tower steel/member (all bracing, bolts, nuts washer etc).

j. Remove all tools and equipment from the tower.

For erection of pole, erection with crane:

k. The tower site where positioning of derrick guys is not feasible (due to obstacles such as existing
lines or existing road or limited space, etc), erection of tower shall be done by using crane. The
erection of pole shall also be done using crane.

l. For the tower/pole sites located very close to an existing road or fairly accessible by heavy vehicles,
crane may be used for the tower/pole erection.

m. Tower steel/member or pole sections shall be pre-assembled into panels or smaller sections at or
around tower/pole base, leaving open space for setting of crane.

n. Once the crane is securely positioned as close as practicable to the tower/pole base, erection shall
start with lifting of assembled panels or sections directly by crane.

o. The lifted panels/sections shall be secured to the crane hook and a guide rope during lifting.

Additional guide rope may be utilized as and when necessary.

p. Once the panel/section is in place, it shall be fixed to position at the main member/section using
an appropriate fixing tool first before the bolts are set.

q. After all necessary bolts at the main connection points are fixed, then the attachment to the crane
hook shall be released and the operation is repeated with the next higher panel/section.

5.0 General Notes:

a. The methods of erection shall ensure that no part or parts or section of the tower/pole is/are
unduly strained.

b. Reaming or burning of holes shall not be allowed.

c. After erection, all foreign matter and surplus material shall be removed from tower/pole and from
the site.

d. After erection is completed, the inspection crew shall inspect the erected tower/pole. This crew
will ensure that right diameters and lengths of bolts are used for each connection and firmly
tightened. The crew will ensure that all tower members or pole sections are installed in accordance
with erection numbers on tower/pole drawings. After completion of the inspection, the crew shall
provide an inspection report to the engineer/site in charge for record.

e. Threads of all bolts below the anti-climbing devices shall be pinned or locked according to
approved method.
