Caselet 1 –

The annual engagement conclave is to be held three months from now. The success of the conclave
is important for the HR department because every year, the organization picks up a theme which is
voted for by the entire company. The HR department plans activities for about three months in
preparation for the conclave.
Dinesh, CHRO of the company has called for a meeting of the entire HR team for planning the
event. He opens the meeting with a list of themes that he has already decided along with Reema,
Head of Talent Management. He also declares that he has only 30 minutes for the discussion and
wants everything to be finalised immediately. He asserts on how the engagement conclave was
started by him 7 years ago when he took over the position and it is of extreme importance to him
personally to make it a grand success.
Reema continues the conversation applauding Dinesh’s dedication to the engagement conclave.
She claims that the entire HR team is committed to the success of the conclave because it matters
more to Dinesh. She asks the team to contribute ideas related to the themes and the different
activities that can be conducted. She herself does not contribute with any idea.
Meit, Sr Manager Talent Management is seen to have noted down all the themes and suggestions
raised by the other team members. He speaks directly to Dinesh saying that two out of the five
themes suggested have already been taken up in the previous editions of the conclave. He suggests
two alternatives and asks the team for their preferences as well. He applauds the team-members
who come up with interesting suggestions and personally takes the responsibility to deliver some
of the most crucial operation of the conclave.
Asna, Head of Compensation and Benefits sits quietly in the meeting with an open laptop and
continues to do her work. She offers no suggestions even when Meit asked for her opinion.
