MATH
FINDING THE RATE OR PERCENT WHEN
THE PERCENTAGE AND BASE ARE GIVEN

A DepEd-BEAM Distance Learning Program supported by the Australian Agency for International Development
To the Learner

A pleasant morning to you! How are you today? I am

glad that you are okay. Did you enjoy answering the
exercises in the previous lesson?
Well, this time I will teach you how to find the rate
when the percentage and base are given. Are you ready?

Let’s Learn This

This learning module discusses how to find the rate or

percent when the percentage and base are given.

Let’s Try This

Direction: Solve the rate.

1.) What percent of 100 is 23 =

2.) What percent of 50 is 25 =

3.) What percent of 80 is 20 =

4.) What percent of 10 is 6 =

5.) 12 is what percent of 16 =

60
Let’s Study This

Finding the Rate

There are 24 carabaos in the farm and 6 of them are

male. What percent of the 24 carabaos are male?
Think: What percent of 24 is 6?

Solution:
Step 1: Write an equation. n x 24 = 6
Step 2: Divide n = 6 /4

.25
24 _6.00
48
_120
120

0
Step 3: Multiply the quotient by 100 or simply
move the decimal point two places to the right.

.25 x 100 = 25 or .25 = 25

Step 4: Affix the percent symbol. 25%

61
The rate is the quantity expressed as percent. To solve for
the

R = P = 100%
B

Where, P = percentage
B = base
R = rate

Other examples:

1.) What percent of 150 is 12?

Rate Base Percentage

R = P x 100% or R = P / B x 100%
B

R = 12 x 100%
150

_1200
1200

R = 0.08x 100% or 0.08 = 8%

R = 8% R = 8%

2.) What percent of 80 is 60?

62
Rate Base Percentage

R = P x 100%
B

R = 60 x 100%
80

0.75
80 _60.00

_400
400

R = 0.75x 100% or 0.75 = 75%

R = 75% R = 75%

Let’s Do This

Direction: Find the rate.

1.) What percent of 200 is 50?

2.) What percent of 50 is 40?

3.) What percent of 10 is 6?

4.) 200 is what percent of 200?

5.) What percent of 800 is 200?

63
Let’s Do More

1.) What percent of 200 is 50?

2.) What percent of 50 is 40?

3.) What percent of 10 is 6?

4.) 200 is what percent of 200?

5.) What percent of 800 is 200?

Let’s Remember This

 To find the rate, divide the percentage by the base and

multiply this 100% or you can simply move the decimal
point in the quotient two places to the right. You can use
this formula.

R = P x 100%
B

64
Let’s Test Ourselves

Direction: Solve for the rate.

1. What percentage of 100 is 3?

2. 75 is what percent of 50?

3. 8 is what percent of 160?

4. What percent of 10 is 15?

5. What percent of 9 is 4.5?

6. 12.5 is what percent of 50?

7. What percent of 65 is 13?

8. 1 is what percent of 8?

9. 10 is what percent of 1000?

10. what percent of 20 is 2?

Check you answer with the answer key.

next lesson.
If you got 5-7, answer “Let’s Enrich Ourselves.”
If you got below 5, you need to repeat the given
activities!
Ask help from your elder.
