They store all our online content
They also analyze our behavior  and sometimes preempt it

next four years
- for cloud computing services is forecast to grow  they use these servers
by 38%

Al this equipment must run at full capacity 24/7  whatever happens to the power supply
So they need back-up facilities

The building shown in the report has 7 floors

for generators
it could power 15,000 homes for 2 days  at full capacity
It has a price: 1.4 billion dollars

That’s the price for uninterrupted connectivity in an

increasingly wired world

Un homme raconte une expérience personnelle

Un été il a retrouvé un disque dur dans son bureau  dans un tiroir

Il a décidé de le jeter  cela faisait trois ans qu’il ne l’avait pas utilisé

Les fichiers dont il avait besoin étaient sur son nouvel  il y avait eu un incident avec son ancien
ordinateur ordinateur

Il a commencé à comprendre que ce qu’il avait jeté  en entendant parler de Silk Road1 et des gens
valait une fortune qui faisaient des bénéfices

Il y avait sur son disque dur 7500 bitcoins

Pour les transformer en argent il a besoin d’un fichier  il n’y a pas de serveur central qui enregistre
spécifique qui s’appelle un porte-monnaie ces données

Il a parlé au directeur de la décharge qui lui a dit qu’il

n’avait pratiquement aucune chance de retrouver son
disque dur

Il pensait que les sacs poubelle auraient été triés et que

le disque dur aurait été mis de côté dans une poubelle
spéciale pour matériel informatique

Mais quand il est arrivé on lui a dit que le contenu des

poubelles ménagères est compressé et enterré

Il est absolument effondré

Il voudrait remonter le temps et ne pas avoir jeté son

disque dur
