ESSENTIAL LEARNING
Your ability to make a difference in an individual’s life is largely based on developing a
healthy and positive relationship with him or her. Caring for other people is a defining trait of
a distinctive person. An individual makes others feel important by respecting them,
emphasizing with them, caring for them genuinely.
Addressing equity issues in physical activities is critical in building relationships
because participants often have cultural myths and biases that can serve as barriers to the
forging of positive relationships. Thus, an individual must take the time to build empathetic
relationships with other people by recognizing that they deserve to be understood and treated
fairly no matter the circumstances.
