At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
identify congruency and line/s of symmetry in shapes and figures, and
assemble puzzles
I. PRELIMINARIES (Differentiated activities related to real situations)
Focus: Symmetry and Congruency
Motivation: “Combine it to know it”
The facilitators show pictures. They will combine the words that the picture projects in order to come up with the desired word “Symmetry and Congruency”
APK (Activating Prior Knowledge): Have you ever experienced determining if a certain thing symmetrical or congruent?
II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT
A. Presentation of Concept Students will know … the concept of symmetry and congruency. Students will be able to … identify congruency and line of symmetry in shapes and figure and assemble puzzles Activities: Tangram Puzzle The class will be divided into three (3) groups. Each group will be given a puzzle to assemble. Then they will identify if the puzzle is symmetrical and if its pieces are congruent. The groups will only be given 5-6 minutes to assemble the puzzle. B. Broadening of Concept (Make meaning questions) As a pupil, what do you think will happen if all things are not symmetrical or congruent? C. Integration (Make meaning/transfer) a. Ignacian Core/ Related Values: Faith/Justice “How will you treat people with disabilities or handicaps?”
b. Social Orientation: Physically Handicapped Person/ People
Why should children like you need to know about symmetry and congruency?
c. Lesson Across Discipline: Christian Living
How did God create man?
d. Faith/ Biblical Reflection: Genesis 1:27
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created He them.”
III. EVALUATION/ ASSESSMENT
Draw these letters on your paper and identify if it’s symmetrical and congruent. ABCDEFGHIJKLMN IV. SUMMARY/ ACTION: (Transfer tasks) Now that you have learned symmetry and congruency, how will you help people in understanding that all of us are equal? V. PURPOSIVE ASSIGNMENT VI. INSTRUCTIONAL Draw this in your notebook and identify if MATERIALSAND these are symmetrical and congruent by REFERENCES drawing lines of symmetry. Puzzle Laptop Television
