However, this standard does not apply to motorcycles. 2. Definition For the purposes of this standard the following definitions apply: (1) running road A road including an approach road, used for the running of the test car and moving barrier. (2) pit An underground structure in ditch form for observing the condition of the test car during and before and after collision from the bottom side and making measurements. (3) collision angle The angle formed by the vertical plane which intersects perpendicularly the front surface of the barrier and by the vertical plane which contains the longitudinal axis of the test car. (4) clarification degree The minimum effective unit for measuring the colliding speed. Testing Site and Equipment 3.1 Testing Site The testing site shall be as follows: (1) The testing site shall have a sufficient space for accommodating the running road, fixed barrier, and other facilities required for the test. (2) The running section of 15 m length before the colliding position shall have a rigid and horizontal surface and in addition, have a gradient of 3 % or less in any 1 m section. 3.2 Fixed Barrier The fixed barrier shall be as follows: (1) The aboveground part shall desirable consist of a reinforced concrete block 3 m or larger in width, 1.5 m or larger in height, and 0.6 m or larger in thickness in size with a mass of 70 t or greater as a rule. Meanwhile, a rigid metal plate or structure may be inter layed between the plywood sheet and the barrier, Moving Barrier The moving barrier shall be as follows: The colliding surface shall be a rigid and flat vertical surface resistant to deformation by collision, with its dimensions as shown in Table. However, this does not apply where other dimen- sions are specified according to the purpose of test. Table. Dimensions of Colliding Surface unit Aboveground height of lower end 175 25 2500 or larger | 800 or larger The colliding surface shall be covered with a plywood sheet of 20 + 2 um in thickness. The colliding surface shall perpendicularly intersect the longitudinal axis of the moving barrier. The body of the moving barrier shall be constructed not to absorb the energy by deformation and the like at the time of collision, Means shall be provided to avoid the recollision between the moving barrier and the test car. The overall mass shall be 1100 + 20 kg. However, this does not apply where it is otherwise specified according to the purpose of test. tion Device The traction device shall be as follows: The device shall be capable of maintaining an almost constant speed after it has accelerated the test car or moving barrier to the speed prescribed for the purpose of test. The device shall have such a construction that directly before collision, the traction force and the guiding device can be Liberated from the test car or the moving barrier. Remark: The performance of the test car shall not be affected by the attachment of the jig or guiding device necessary for traction to the test car. 3 D 1060-1982 3.5 Pit It 4s desirable to provide a pit in the range of collision on the running road so far as it does not disturb the posture and behavier of the test car or moving barrier. 3.6 Speed Measuring Apparatus The speed measuring apparatus shall have a precision of + 1 % and a clarification degree of within 0.5 km/h. + Conditions of Test Car 4.1 Mass of Test The mass of the test car shall be adjusted to that of the car carrying the standard outfit. However, if otherwise specified according to the purpose of test, it shall be made agree with the specified value. To make the mass agree, parts may be detached or supplementary weights may be put on so far as the test results are not affected, 4.2 Conditions of Te: following conditions unl Car The test car shall be tested under the otherwise specified. (1) The car accessories and optional parts shall be attached, as required. (2) The cooling water, lubricating ofl, battery liquid, etc. may be reduced within the extent not affecting the test results. (3) A quantity of fuel exceeding 90 % of the maximum capacity shall be charged in the fuel tank. However, a substitute liquid having a similar specific gravity may be used in place of the fuel. (4) The fuel or substitute liquid shall be Introduced into the fuel piping in the normal state. (5) The tire air pressure shall be set to the specified value. (6) The select position of the transmission shall be set at the neutral. (7) The parking brakes shall be set at the released position. (8) The door locks shall be set at the released position. 5, Colliding Speed The speed of the test car or moving barrier shall be set to within the speed range prescribed according to the purpose of test. The speed shall be measured as follows: (1) Measurement of speed shall be carried out within 3 m before the position where the test car or moving barrier collides. (2) The speed shall be calculated by measuring the time for the test car or moving barrier to travel across a given section or the distance of travel in a given time. a D 1060-1982 6. Gonditions of Collision ‘The conditions of collision shall be as follows: a @ (3) The test car or moving barrier shall be caused to collide in such 2 manner that its longitudinal axis deviates by + 2 degrees from the intended angle of collision. In frontal collision, the lateral deviation between the longitu- dinal vertical central plane of the test car and the vertical central plane perpendicularly intersecting the front surface of the fixed barrier or structure shall be within 300 am. In rear collision, the lateral deviation between the vertical plane passing through the centre of collision of the test car and parallel to the direction of collision and the longitudinal vertical central plane of the moving barrier shall be within 300 7. Test Records The test records shall consist of the following item: a) @) (3) (4) (5) Testing date Testing site Elements of test car (a) Designation and type of car (b) Chassis No, (c) Type of engine mounted (a) Kind of fuel Test conditions (a) Nass of test car and mass of moving barrier (>) Designation of substitute liquid used Test results (a) Colliding speed (b) Other performance of test car prescribed according to the purpose of test.
