UDC 629,11; es JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD Measurement of Noise Emitted by D 1026-1987 Stationary Road Vehicles (Reaffirmed: 1992) 1. Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the testing method of outside noise emitted by stationary road vehicles, hereinafter referred to as the "vehicles" at a test location having acoustic characteristics readily obtainable alongside a road and the like. Remarks 1, This standard is intended to judge the presence of difference of noises emitted by the following causes and others by comparison with the results of reference tests tested in accordance with the same testing method (for example, the real test results of type approval), r testing the vehicles in use. (1) The damage, abnormal actuation or modification of silencer and others which can not be found by visual inspection. (2) The partial or complete removal of devices reducing the emission of noise, such as silencer and the like. 2. The numerical values obtained in this standard neither represent the noises emitted by the vehicles during running measured by the other testing method [JIS D 1024, ISO 362 and ISO 7188], nor can be used for comparison of noises emitted by different vehicles*. Note * The different vehicles mentioned herein mean the vehicles which are considered to be not same in type, in type approval and the like. Applicable Standards: JIS B 0108-Glossary of Terms Relating to Reciprocating Internal- Combustion Engines JIS C 1805-Precision Sound Level Meters JIS Z 8401-Rules for Rounding off of Numerical Values z Corresponding International Standard: ISO 5130 Acoustics-Measurement of noise emitted by stationary road vehicles-Survey method Reference Standards: JIS D 1024-Measurements of Noise Emitted by Automobiles 1S0 362 Acoustics-Measurement of noise emitted by accelerating road vehicles-Engineering method 180 7188 Acoustics-Measurement of noise emitted by passenger cars under conditions representative of urban driving 2 D 1026-1987 2. Test Conditions 2.1 Test Vehicle The test vehicle shall be subjected to a sufficient warming-up driving, and the speed change gear shall be adjusted to neutral and the clutch be engaged. Furthermore, in the case where the vehicle has no neutral gear posi- tion, the driving wheel shall be raised off from the track surface. 2.2 Test Site The test site, in at least the range of 1 m from the outermost sides of the test vehicle, shall be a flat track surface made of hard material such as concrete and asphalt, and be outdoor space free from acoustic hindrances affecting measurements within 3 m from the outermost sides of the test vehicle and microphone. 2.3 Weather and Background Noise The wind shall be 5 m/s or under in wind speed, and the Tevel of backyround noise shall be by 10 dB or over smaller than the levels of background noise to be measured duing testing. 3. Measuring Equipments 3.1 Sound Level Meter The sound level meter shall be that in accord- ance with JISC 1505 or that having characteristics equal to this, and A characteristic shall be used for the frequency correction circuit and fast (FAST) for the dynamic characteristic. In the case where the microphone is used with being attached with a wind shield, it shall be so guaranteed by the manufacturer of the sound level meter that wind shield does not affect the accuracy of the sound level meter. 3.2, Engine Tachomater The engine tachometer shall be that having an accuracy 0 or better. 4. Testing Method 4.1 Microphone Positions The microphone positions shall be as given in wa foliswing (HEGGY fo AUlGhGd Fleure)s (1) Install the microphone at the same height as that of the exhaust opening, in the direction of 45 + 10° to the outside of a vehicle with respect to the vertical plane including the central axis of exhaust gas flow and at the distance of 50 + 2.5 cm from the exhaust opening, with the reference axis of the microphone (free sound field) in parallel to the track surface, and facing towards the exhaust opening. However, in the case where the height of the exhaust opening is 20 cm or under, the height of the micro- phone shall be set to 20 cm. (2) In the case where 2 or more exhaust openings spaced 30 em or under are provided, set the microphone position in the same manner as (1), at first prefer the rear in the front and rear directions, next prefer the outside in the right and left direc- tions, and at last select the upper side in preference in the upper and lower directions. 3 D 1026-1987 (3) In the case where 2 or more exhaust openings are provided, separated exceeding 30 cm, set the microphone position in the same manner as (1), with respect to the respective exhaust openings. Furthermore, carry out measurements at respective measuring positions. (4) For a vehicle having upward exhaust pipe, facing the microphone with its reference axis upwards, set the microphone position at the place of 50 cm apart from the side face of the vehicle at the same height as that of the exhaust opening. (5) In the case where all of (1) to (4) are not capable of being applied due to design constructional reasons, illustrate clearly the microphone position where the test has been carried out, and append to the test results. Furthermore, in this case, locate the microphone 50 cm or over apart from the nearest obstacle so that the reference axis of the microphone may not be masked by the obstacle. 4,2. Calibration of Sound Level Meter The sound level meter, prior to starting measurement, shall be corrected in accordance with the method designed by the manufacturer of the sound level meter. Furthermore, after a series of measurements, calibration shall be made by the same method again, and in case where any difference of 1 dB or over is found, remeasurements are necessary. 4.8 Running Operation of Engine and Record of Sound Level | The engine of which rpm is maintained at one of the following values for several seconds, and the throttle shall then be suddenly closed. The maximum value of sound level measured, in the meanwhile, shall be recorded. (1) for gasoline engines (excluding two-wheeled vehicle and motor cycle): 3/4 n + 100 rpm (2) for diesel engines (excluding two-wheeled vehicle and motor cycle): 3/4 n +100 rpm However, if 3/4 n + 100 rpm is difficult to adjust by the operation of acceleration pedal and the like: the no-load maximum rpm in accordance with JIS B 0108. (3) for two-wheeled vehicles and motor cycles: 1/2 n £ 100 rpm for vehicles of n > 5000 rpm, and 3/4 n + 100 rpm for vehicles of n = 5000 rpm Remark: Herein, n is the maximum output rpm presented by the vehicle manufacturer. 4.4 Number of Measurements Three times of measurement shall be carried out at each measuring position, the arithmetic mean of these three times-measured values shall be obtained, and it shall be rounded off to one place of decimal in accordance with JIS Z 8401. However, in the case where the range of three times measured values carried out continuously exceeds 2 dB, remeasurement shall be carried out. 4 D 1026-1987 4.5 Interpretation of Results In the case where the measured results of the sound level is By 5 a6 oF over larger than the results of the reference test carried out by the same method, it shall be confirmed that there is the difference of sound level compared with the results of the reference test. 4.6 Test Records In the test results, the following information shall be recorded in the record and results table given in Attached Table. (1) Type of test vehicle (2) Date of execution of test (3) Travelled distance at the time of test (4) Test location, weather and road conditions (5) Position of microphone (illustrate the relative position with the exhaust opening) (6) Type and name of measuring instruments (1 Abnormalities assured by visual inspection (8) Engine rpm at the time of test (9) Measured result of sound level (10) Measured result of background sound level (11) Test results (final results which have been subjected to the background noise correction) @ @) (3) @ (s) (6) @ (8) 5 D 1026-1987 Attached Table.
