Narrator: good morning everyone! And welcome back to another episode of the grade 11

acting skills of this batch to showcase you the influence of culture and gender in communication
dimensions.

(SLIDE NA NAGPAPAKITA NG “VERBAL/NONVERBAL DIMENSION)

Narrator: when we talk about verbal and nonverbal dimension in communication, it pertains to
our use of chosen words, expressions, gestures and bodily movement. This can be mirrored
through the culture we grew up with and our gender.

(CULTURE) VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL

Reem: *sees the teacher at the mall* Hi po Ma’am Kathleen!

*nagmano si reem kay kath*

Kathleen: Fancy seeing you around here, We’re here to eat!

Reem: Oh we’re heading out already po! see you around ma’am, have a nice day po!

Kathleen: Oh okay then! See you! *Waves*

(Western Countries)

Lorraine: *Sees the teacher* Hi Eler!

Ariel: *waves*

Narrator: in the culture of Filipinos they use po and opo to show their respect to the elderly,
they also do the gesture of holding the elder’s hand and pressing it against their forehead also
as a sign of respect. In other countries such as the western ones, they call some of their elders
by their first name.

(GENDER) VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL

(GIRLS)
Loria: Good Morning binibi, How’s you crochet, I Hope it turns out great for your ginoo!

*tawa ng mahinhin kasi kinikilig*

Wency: Hi Loria, I hope he likes it too, Im so excited <3

*takip ng mukha gamit pamaypay*

(BOYS)

Mark: What’s up orbs! My girlfriend just broke up with me it’s so awit!

Giana: Songs bro! I Hope you move on, anyways there’s still a lot of fishes in the sea!

Mark: Thanks bro I appreciate it see you around!

*both wave*

Narrator: men communicate in ways they will be deemed as macho and cool while for women it
was engraved to them to act as if they’re fragile and very delicate. But of course, now, norms
are broken. Women can be dominant and assertive. Men can be fragile and shy. Both are
allowed to express themselves and show emotions.

(SLIDE NA NAGPAPAKITA NG “ORAL/WRITTEN DIMENSION)

ORAL AND WRITTEN (culture)

Narrator: when we say oral and written communication in dimension it discusses messages that
are transmitted out loud (orally) and transcript (written) of thoughts, ideas, and feelings.

(Philippines) Christelle: I prepared a long speech for your extravagant day! I hope you like it,
I’ve seen you grow like a blooming and nice lady, of course, you got it from your mom
*laughing effect* since you are 18 already I guess you have been thinking about your future
profession, I hope you do well and strive to be the best Santos in the field of medicine *tawa
konti* for now have the time off your life party a little, go with the flow and of course if your mom
won’t allow you just call me, just kidding! *tawa*

Lorraine: of course po tita I will wait for that party *winks*

(western) Johlan: Happy Birthday and God bless young lady!

Loria: Thanks Johlan!

Narrator: In the Filipino culture, they have the habit of making wordy compositions whilst adding
humour to it. On the other hand, other cultures prefer being straight to the point in delivering nor
writing what they want to convey.

(GENDER) ORAL AND WRITTEN

(GIRLS) Ariel: OMG is that the letter you’re going to give to Clyden! *Irit*

Loria: really let us see!

Johlan: wait! I’m nervous I can’t!

Ariel: read it to us we’ll be the judge of that *crossed arms*

Johlan: okay fine! Hi Clyden how are you I’ve been wanting to tell you that-- *stop kasi iccut
naman* I will wait for your reply.

Wency: that’s fine Johlan, let's give it to him tomorrow.

*Parehong kinilig*

(BOYS) Marielle: I don’t think that the data you gathered is correct Mr. Leo, it is stated here that
the calculations are invalid to support the whole city with relief goods! *Pasigaw para kunyari
galit*

Kathleen: how can you say that Mr. Martinez if you didn’t even calculate it yourself!

Loria: order in the court! Let us end the briefing here! *May sound na dapat toktok para sa
court*

Narrator: In terms of oral and written communication, women prefer their works to be indirect
and even soft-spoken and men prefer to be straightforward in what they write and say. Of
course, that’s not the case now as we’ve broken the social standards of the society.

(SLIDE NA NAGPAPAKITA NG “FORMAL/INFORMAL DIMENSION)

Narrator: in times that we have to be formal we put more attention and structure through the
way we communicate. In times that it’s alright being informal in communication, we
communicate with ease and we do it less structurally.

(CULTURE )FORMAL AND INFORMAL

Johlan: Hi Ms. Alghanim I took over time so I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?

Reem: Oh good for you! I hope I get a freebie after you get the check? Just kidding! See you
tomorrow!

Narrator: in the Philippines it’s a custom to treat everyone as a family. May it be officemates,
classmates, and strangers who attend their party.

(GENDER) FORMAL AND INFORMAL

Giana: Should we tell Mr. Sevi or Ms. Galves?

Christelle: I think Ms. Galves will Understand us more.

Giana: Ok then let’s go!

Narrator: people deem it more comfortable to discuss problems and confide secrets to women
as they perceive them to be more sympathetic than men. Though that may not be the case now.

(SLIDE NA NAGPAPAKITA NG INTENTIONAL/UNINTENTIONAL DIMENSION)

Narrator: intentional communication refers to communicating with a specific goal in mind while
unintentional communication refers to occasions wherein communicating takes place without
the communicator being aware of it; it can lead to good or bad situations.

(CULTURE) UNINTENTIONAL OR INTENTIONAL

Wency: who knows this answer? race your hand!

*LAHAT MAAM MAAM MAAM MAAM*

Lorainne: I want to answer!

Ariel: No I Want to--

Lorraine: Cosmo in fact is the Greek word Universe.

*Dumila kay ariel*

Wency: good job miss Santos!

(sa ending magssorry si Lorainne abt sa inakto)

(GENDER) UNINTENTIONAL AND INTENTIONAL

*mar smiling at the Phone*

(GIRLS) Kathleen: What are you smiling at?! Do you have a boyfriend?!

Marielle: What no mom it’s just a joke from facebook!

(BOYS)

*Mark ngumiti sa Phone*

Christelle: Why are you laughing?! You didn’t even do the chores you just use your phone and
eat!

Mark: Its my last one mom!

Narrator: it is common for students to be excited when answering teachers' questions and there
can be times where a student can overshadow someone intentionally. There are also times that
our gestures can be interpreted differently though we may not mean it just because of our
gender.

*Something na magdidistinguish na tapos na lahat*

*second to the last ending bg music na mahina lang*

Narrator: it is important to understand the dimensions of communication because this helps us

in understanding where miscommunication might occur. Whether its is verbal/nonverbal,
oral/written, formal/informal, or intentional/unintentional, communication is effective if the
speaker uses verbal and nonverbal; communication efficiently in sending the message to the
listener. It is also important to remember that the culture and gender play an influential role in
effective communication.

*medyo malakas na outro music ng onti pero nde masasapawan boses*

Narrator: Once again, we are the grade 11 students of AMISD; always willing to help and ready
to the rescue. See you again next time!
