Desarrollar un taller de comprensión lectora sobre términos técnicos en idioma


inglés, referente a oferta y demanda.

4. Answer the following questions

a. What is Benchmarking?

Benchmarking is a technique or management tool that consists of taking as reference the


best aspects or practices of other companies, whether they are direct competitors or
belonging to another sector and adapted them to the company itself, adding
improvements.

b. What is the process of Benchmarking?

It is often thought that benchmarking involves spying and copying, but the truth is that
it is simply about learning from the best that others do and applying what they have
learned, making the necessary changes according to the circumstances and their own
characteristics.

c. Number the aspects to be taken into account in Benchmarking:

There are three types of benchmarking:

Internal benchmarking: that which is applied within a company; for


example, when taking as a reference the practices used by a certain area of
the company that, unlike the others, is obtaining very good results.
Competitive benchmarking: one that applies to companies that are direct
competitors; for example, when you take as a reference the practices of the
competition where it exceeds us.
Functional or generic benchmarking: one that applies to companies that
may or may not be direct competitors; for example, when taking as a
reference the strategies of a company that is a leader in a sector different
from its own.

Applying benchmarking involves carrying out continuous monitoring and


evaluation of competing companies, especially leaders, in order to identify
their best aspects or practices; However, it is also possible to apply
benchmarking for certain aspects in which you want to improve.

5. Write the vocabulary (20 words) from the reading, and


make a Glossary: Organize the words in alphabetic order
and write the meaning of each word.

Glossary:

Offer: That amount of goods or services that producers are willing to


sell to consumers under certain market conditions.
Demand: Quantity of goods and services that can be acquired at
different market prices by a consumer or more
Benchmarking: Is a technique or management tool that consists of
taking as reference the best aspects or practices of other companies.
Supply: Provide someone with something he requires.
Market: Set of consumers who want, can and are willing to buy a
product offered.
Life cycle: It is used in all areas where planning is needed for the
concretization of an objective, especially in matters related to
construction and research.
Client: Person who uses the services of a professional or a company,
especially the one who does it regularly.
Empresa: Entidad en la que intervienen el capital y el trabajo como
factores de producción de actividades industriales o mercantiles o para
la prestación de servicios.

Balance point: It is a concept of finance that refers to the level of


sales where fixed and variable costs are covered.

Promotion: Advertising campaign that is made of a specific product


or service for a limited time through an attractive offer.

6. Write a ten lines text that summarizes the topic of the activity.

In the markets, buyers reflect their desires in demand and sellers seek
profits by offering products that consumers or buyers are looking for; that is,
they are demanding. This demand and supply of goods act as forces that
allow determining the prices with which goods are exchanged. If we assume
that the two previous graphs correspond to the demand curve and the
supply curve of the same good, we could superimpose both curves on a
single graph and find that they intersect at a point. This point is known as
the equilibrium point of the market for the good under study. At this point,
both buyers and sellers agree on the amount that is bought or sold, as well
as on the price.
