PROBLEM STATEMENT: Carry a literature analysis and write a short report on the importance
of high voltage diagnostic measurement techniques.

INTRODUCTION

High voltage diagnostic techniques have empowered us to manage high voltages. So they have
made the force frameworks more solid and effective. This has empowered us to use high
voltages easily and more efficiently.

High voltage is basically how power is sent across the power system. Without the high voltages
utilized, it would be troublesome for power generators to send enough capacity to fulfill the
Power requirements in territories with high power demand.

SIGNIFICANCE

Below are a few significant points associated with high voltage

 Transmission of high power across long distance with very little power loss

 High direct voltages are needed in insulation test on cables and capacitors.
 High voltage is needed when we use high power equipment (Industrial and medical
instruments)
 As it is easy to convert high value power into lower value using transformers and voltage
divider to get desired value so high voltage are used in industry
 Generation of high voltages is required in research work in the area of pure and applied
physics.

 Impulse generator charging units also require high D.C. voltages of about 100 to
200 kV.

IMPORTANCE OF HIGH VOLTAGE DIAGNOSTIC MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES

The importance of high voltage diagnostic measurement techniques can be summarized as:

 Decreasing the risk of premature failure.

 Increasing the reliability of electric grid components, and providing an opportunity for
improving both energy efficiency and reducing production cost.
 Improving the power grid maintenance strategy
 Improved reliability of electricity systems.
 Increased equipment lifetime and more efficient asset utilization.
 Improved maintenance procedures and extended service lifetime.
 Reduced overall operating costs and increased plant productivity.
 Increasing the availability of electric grid components.
 Minimizing the possible occurrences of catastrophic events.
 Minimized outage duration.
 Avoidance of premature asset faults.

CONCLUSION

The effective high voltage diagnostic measurement techniques have made our power systems
more secure and dependable. Efforts are in progress to overcome the shortcomings of each
diagnostic technique. For example, researches are in progress to overcome the noise distortion
in high voltage cables.
