Proposal

Rationale

Over the past 12 units I have learnt how to create a broad

range of media. I have learned how to create and produce a
short film, music video, animation, radio drama and how to
create factual programmes. I have learnt how to do each of
these different productions to a good standard whilst
understanding how to produce primary and secondary research
for each. By doing the research for each production it helped
broaden my range of knowledge on the topic I was going to be
filming about. The research also helped me to look into the
various different shot types needed for the different
productions and how I can create a professional view on my
own. For Unit 13 I am going to produce a Factual programme as
I would like to create something that is informative and
interesting. When creating my factual programme, it will allow
me to think about how I might film my interviews whether I do
a proper set up or a zoom call if things change depending on
the future. By doing a factual programme I will also try and
make it look as professional as possible.

Project Concept

When thinking about my factual programme I wanted to create

something based on the issue that is happening globally. I
have chosen to do a production based on the coronavirus
pandemic and how it is affecting people of different ages,
e.g., their mental health, their jobs and how they have
changed their lifestyle to fit around what is happening. I
plan on using voice overs and some archive footage of the
pandemic last year and some news footage. I wanted to do this
as it is slightly different from what we are hearing every day
on the news. I also want to create a programme that people can
relate to in some sort of way with the way that they are
feeling. I want to show case what have learnt from my previous
work in creating something that is to a high quality and is
professional. I feel as though this production will allow me
to create professional looking interviews and b-roll footage.
Due to this news being quite fresh there is a lot of research
and articles out there based on this topic.

Evaluation

After each week I will provide a weekly blog onto the

evaluation page of my FMP website. This will allow me to
access my strengths and weaknesses from that week. This will
allow me to stay on task and to help me understand things that
I could change or even improve on to ensure that I get a good
grade. I will be asking my peers and teachers for feedback
throughout the week too, to make sure that my idea is good or
that the work I have recently submitted is to a high enough
standard. I will be looking at professional and past winning
productions to make sure that my own production is in line
with the expectations of my brief. By the end of this unit my
peers and teachers will access the work and the production I
have provided them with, to see if it is to the same standard
as a professional’s piece of work and if there is anything I
could improve or if there are things that stand out for them.
BY gaining these improvements it will allow me to plan ahead
into the future when I go onto University/or my future career
path and how I could make my future productions better.

Competition

Raindance film festival

Raindance Film Festival is one of the biggest independent film

festivals in the UK. Raindance is situated in the centre
of London’s West End film district. Every year, Raindance
Film Festival appeals to 16,000 visitors who of which include
500 industry professionals into London.

Submission Rules:

When sending your final production off to Raindance film

festival, you must send two final copies. One must be a
digital copy the other being a Blue-ray copy. When sending
both of these to the festival the film title must be clear on
both copies. Film shorts, documentary shorts and animation
shorts must all be under 45minutes.

Selection Criteria:

Productions are re-viewed and selected under the following

criteria:

– Quality of narrative and production values.

– Independent nature of the production.

(If you win one of the main categories you are eligible for your work
to be submitted to the academy awards)

The Competition

The competition has many participants who will create

very good pieces, so I’m not saying I definitely will win
this competition but, it will allow me to push myself to get
into those top categories and really go above and beyond as I
have seen the previous winners work and I will need to make my
work top theirs’s.

Target Audience
My target audience will be for all ages I’ve rounded it to 15-
60 years roughly, but I want my production to be informative
and interesting for all age groups not just the ones I have
outlined. I will try and have a sense of humour at parts to
allow the younger age groups to enjoy it but to also keep it
short and interesting.

Theoretical Problems:

Planning for Theoretical problems

Problems I may encounter when How I plan to resolve these

When gaining research for my production I may encounter some

problems. Some problems that I might encounter are that I may
not gain enough responses for my survey which may mean that I
don’t get sufficient depth on what my audience want to see or
what they like and dislike about my idea. I might not find
enough evidence or information for my production. Due to the
fact that my production is a factual programme I need to make
sure that I have information that is truthful and reliable.

Planning for practical and technical problems

Problems I may encounter when How I plan to resolve these

Some problems that could occur when creating my production is

not having enough interviewees to gather information. So,
when getting people for interviews I should make sure that I
have some people as backups just in case one interviewee
can’t do. My filming equipment could get broken or I may not
have enough batteries for certain parts of equipment. I may
be restricted to how I interview people due to coronavirus
meaning I have to make sure I talk to people from a safe
distance.
