Scope _ This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies polyethylene insulated cables (hereafter referred to as “cables"), to be used in circuits for power supply of 600 V or under, which aro insulated by polycthylone or cross-linked polyethylene, which are encased in a sheath using a compound composed mainly for vinyl chlo- ride resin (hereafter referred to as “vinyl"), or using polyethylene. Remarks 1, The following standards are cited in this Standard: JIS C 3005 Test methods for rubber or plastic insulated wires and cables JIS C $102 Annealed copper wires for electrical purposes . The units and numerical values shown in { 1 in this Standard are based on the traditional units and are appended for informative reference. 2. (b) Circular compacted stranded wire Circular compacted stranded wire shall be formed by stranding the annealed copper wires specified in JIS C 3102 or the equivalent and compressing into circular form; or by stranding hard drawn copper wires into circular form, by com- pressing and then annealing the strand to change into annealed copper. The pitch of the outermost layer shall not exceed 20 times the outer diameter, and the direction of lay in the outermost layer shall @Q be S-lay. (©) Segmental compacted stranded wire To produce segmental com- pacted stranded wire, the annealed copper wires specified in JIS C 3102 or the equivalent shall be stranded and formed into a segmental conductor by compression as the component wires, and then the segmental conductors shall be stranded in S-lay, to form a circular wire. Proper insulation shall be applied between individual segmental conductors. In addition, proper binder tape ean be wound after stranding the segmental conductors, (2) Separator On each conductor, an appropriate separator may be placed. (8) Insulation ‘The conduetor of (1) (or the separator) shall be concentrically covered by polyethylene or cross-linked polyethylene as insulation with the appropriate thickness givon in Attached Tables 1 to 4 oO ‘The average thickness of insulation shall be not less than 90 % of the value in Attached Tables 1 to 4, and the minimum thickness shall be not less than 80 % of the value in Attached Tables 1 to 4. When the insulation and the sheath are formed in one layer in a single core cable, the cables insulated by auch a worl shalll be treated as a finished product. In this case, the surface of cables shall have no harmful defects. In addition, proper tapes can be applied on the insulation. (4) Identification of core Identification of core shall be made by coloring the insulation or the surface of insulation, or by other suitable means as stated below. ‘The white color of polyethylene or cross-linked polyethylene may be its natural eolor. In this case, the twisting may be made together with proper fillers or else the cores may he covered by proper mixtures. But the fillers shall be easily peeled off the core. Proper binders can be used on the twisted cores. Sheath Vinyl or polyethylene shall cover the insulation of (3) for single core cables, or the twisted cores of (5) for multicore circular cables, to the thickness specified in Attached Tables 1 to 4 as the sheath. The color of sheath shall be black as a rule. ‘The average thickness of sheath shall be not less than 90 % of the value in Attached Tables 1 to 4, and the minimum thickness not less than 85 % of the same. ‘Tho surface of cables shall have no harmful defects, 5. Teoting method 6.1 Appearance The appearance test shall follow 3. of JIS C 3006. 5.2 Construction ‘The construction test shall follow 5. of JIS C 9005, 9.8 Conductor resistance The electric conductor resistance test shall follow 6. of JIS C 3005. 5.4 Dielectric withstand voltage The dielectric withstand voltage test shall be carried out in accordance with one of the tests given below. However, test on (1) or (8) for single core cables, and on (1) or (2) for multicore cables. (1) ‘Inwater The test in water shall follow 8. (1) of JIS C 3005, (2) Inair The test in air shall follow 8. (2) of JIS C 3005. (8) Spark The test by spark shall follow 8. (3) of JIS C 3005 5.5 Insulation resistance The insulation resistance test shall follow 9.1 of JIS C3005. Temperature conversion is not carried out. 5.6 Tensile properties of insulation and sheath The test for tensile proper- ties of insulation and sheath shall follow 18. of JIS C 3005. 5.7 ‘Thermal aging The thermal aging test shall be applied to insulation and sheath in accordance with 19. of JIS C 3005, The heating temperature and dura- tion shall comply with A in Table 6 of 19.2 in JIS C 3005 for polyethylene, E in Table 6 of 19.2 in JIS C 8006 for cross-linked polyethylene, and B in Table 6 of 19.2 in JIS C 8005 for vinyl. The oil temperature and duration of immersion in oil shall be as specified in A in Table 6 of 20. in JIS C 3005. 5.9 Heat shock — Heat shock test shall be carried out on vinyl sheath cable in accordance with 21.1 in JIS C 3005. The cooling temperature shall be -15 + 0.5°C for vinyl, and -50 + 3°C for polyethylene. : 5.11 Heat deformation Heat deformation test shall be carried out on the insulation and sheath in accordance with 25. in JIS C 3005. ‘The heating tem- perature shall be as shown in Table 5, and the load in Table 6 and Table 7. The testing method shall follow 28.2 (2) of JIS C 3005. 6. Inspection _ Inspection shall be performed by the testing method of 5. for the following items, and the results shall meet the requirements of 3., 4. and 9. However, some parts or all of the items may be omitted subject to agreement between the parties concerned with acceptance.
