Symbol The symbol for the cables shall be AV(1), Note (1) A represents low-voltage cables for automobiles, and V represents vinyl compound, Characteristic ‘The characterietics of the cable shall comply with Table 1 when tested by 6. Colouring of Cables The symbol and specification of colours used in cables shall comply with Table 2. The classification of colouring shall be made by base and marking colours and their order of use shall comply with Table 3. Testing Methods 6.1 Construction The construction test shall be conducted in accord- ance with 5. of JIS C 3005. 8.2 Conductor Resistance The conductor resistance test shall be con- ducted In accordance with 6, of JIS C 3005, The resistance value shall be converted to n/m, 8.3 Withstand Voltage The withstand voltage test shall be conducted as follows: (1) Spark — The spark test shall be conducted in accordance with 8. ‘yor a8 © 3008. (2) Immersion A test specimen of about 600 mm in length shall be ‘taken for the immersion test from a lot of cable which has passed the spark test. The ineulator at the both ends for a length of e about 26 mm of the specimen shall be torn off, and the bare conductor twisted, and as shown in Fig. 1, the central part of the specimen, for a length of 300 mm, shall be immersed in 5 % salt water, After immersion for § h, an AC voltage of 60 or 60 Hz c/s and nearly sinusoidal wave shall be applied between the conductor and earth. The voltage shall be gradually increased up to 1000 V, and kept at this value for 1 min for withstand test. Fig. 1. The insulator at the both ends of the specimen shall be torn off for a length of 25 mm, and with a load shown in Table 5 being applied on the conductor at each end, the specimen shall be hung over a mandrel having @ diameter shown in Table 5, kept horizontally as shown in Fig. 3. Keep under the above-mentioned condition, the specimen shall be heated in circulated air at 120 + 2°C for 120 h. Example of Heat-Resistance Test Plan e Mandrel ‘Test specinen [Eced} [Load] 6.7 Low Temperature A test specimen of suitable length shall be taken for the Tow-temperature test, and it shall be kept in a low-temperature oven at -40 + 2°C for 3h. In the low-temperature oven, the specimen shall be bent over a mandrel having a diameter shown in Table 6, for an angle of e 180° in about 10 sec. as shown in Fig. 4. Then the specimen shall be taken out from the oven, and the test of 6.3 (2) shall be conducted. The tape shall be moved with a speed of 1500 mm/min, and the length of the tape, moved so far as the conductor come in contact with the tape, shall be measured. After a measurement at one point has been made, the specimen shall be shifted 25 mm, turned 90° in clockwise direction and fixed, and the above mentioned test shell be repeated, Thus 8 tests shall be conducted on one specimen, read measured values and the average value obtained. Measured values below the average shall be averaged again, and the value thus obtained shall be taken as the abrasion-resiatance value. Fig. 5. Items (4) to (9) may be omitted partly or wholly by agreements between parties concerned with acceptance.
