What are Peripheral Devices?

Peripheral devices relating to computers, are also called input or output devices.

They are external components that can be attached to or used to enter and

retrieve information and instructions to or from a computer. This is done for

storage or processing and the processed data is then delivered in a form that is

easily understood by everyone.

Examples are:

Speakers are usually used in pairs and one of the most commonly
used output devices. They are audio devices that usually work with a
computer. Others may be used with other multimedia devices like
mp3 players or a stereo device. Speakers allow us to hear and
understand the information coming from the computer.
The speakers are used in homes and businesses, by anyone. Theses
persons include employees, employers, teachers, and students.
 The Printer

Printers are output devices. Printers take the information from the
computer (soft copy) and put it on paper (hard copy).This can be in
the form of printed text or pictures. There are different types of
printers. These include laser printers, thermal printers, or 3D
printers.
Many people use printers in homes, schools, churches, and
businesses. They are used by anyone. Theses persons include
employees, employers, teachers, pastors, doctors, and students.

The Microphone
 A microphone, also called a ‘mic’, is an input device that
receives audio by changing soundwaves into an electrical signal.
This signal can either be analog or digital. Microphones can be used
with computers or other audio devices. They can be built-in or
attached to devices.
Many people use microphones in clubs, schools, churches, and
functions. They are used by anyone. Theses persons include disc
jockey, lecturers, or promoters.

The Scanner
A scanner is an input device that is usually connected to a
computer. It scans documents such as pictures and written
documents. When a document is scanned the scanner changes the
hard copy document to a soft copy document.

Many people use scanners in homes, schools, and business. Theses

persons include employees, employers, teachers, students, and
parents.

The Joystick
A Joystick is an input device. It is also called the control stick. It is a
control device mostly used in computer games, and graphical
applications. It is also used to operate cranes, cameras, trucks, and
wheelchairs. A joystick can also help persons who have movement
disabilities as it requires little hand movement to operate.
Joysticks can be used in homes, hospitals, gaming arcades and
businesses. They can be used by anyone. Theses persons include
disabled persons, construction workers, doctors, and children.
