The holder of this position manages data center, general


operations and infrastructure services. This includes providing
24/7/365 operation, scheduling and monitoring services for the
infrastructure and the applications located in multiple data
centers. These systems provide services that are used to meet

The IT Shared Services Department at the University of North Texas


System is seeking to hire a Data Center Operations Manager to join
their team. The holder of this position manages data center, general
operations and infrastructure services within the Enterprise Systems
and Infrastructure Services group of ITSS. This organization supports
the software and hardware infrastructure that underlies the many
services provided by ITSS. This includes providing 24/7/365 operation,
scheduling and monitoring services for the infrastructure and the
applications located in three data centers. These systems provide
services that are used to meet the administrative and operational
needs of the university. Work is performed with independent judgment
under the general direction of the IT Infrastructure Director.
EXAMPLES OF WORK * Prepare plans for development and
installation of data center according to present and future requirements
and in compliance with ITSS strategic initiatives. * Monitor all software
and hardware products and ensure compliance to Data Center
standards and systems, and publishes metrics of the effectiveness of
their organization including measures of and problem resolution and
request servicing effectiveness. * Monitor all activities related to
analysis and implement all data center plans. * Supervise designing
and evaluation of all server systems according to measurement of
process. * Perform troubleshoot on data center, identify issues and
assist in timely resolution of same. * Manage and perform research to
design new advanced data center. * Ensure adherence to all
established guidelines and management practices for employees. *

Abilities

Preferred Qualifications include: Experience in assisting in


architecture, management, and implementation of DR test plans an
execution for VMware, EMC, SQL Server, and Oracle technologies.
Experience performing assessments covering VMware, EMC (all
products), and backup best practices and recommendations.
Experience performing detailed site surveys to validate power, cooling,
space, load, and wiring requirements for data center. Experience
reviewing new server orders and verify that necessary hardware was
on-hand and provide customer with ETA for any hardware that is not
currently in stock. Experience provisioning of power and data circuits
with other university departments as needed. Experience managing
teams 24×7 in provision of “remote hands” support for university
customers and escort/assist visiting customers. Physical and data
security. Moderate knowledge of VMware vSphere and NSX. Basic
understanding of network devices including switches and routers.
Experience developing schedules and Work Breakdown Structure
(WBS) for upcoming maintenance Projects Experience serving as
point of contact on various escalations and outages. Experience
managing a NOC or similar. Strong experience developing
documentation to be used in planning installation/upgrades of systems,
updating and maintaining floor plans and installation documentation.
Experience with facilitating work orders and approvals via HEAT or
Service Now. Experience interfacing with vendors and other functional
groups to ensure that all required preventive maintenance and repair is
scheduled and performed. Experience performing Data Center Asset
Management. Experience establishing and maintaining data center
Preferred standards and procedures.
